This is a fantastic vintage cedar-lined brass trunk with wooden feet. It stands 18" high. Measurements of the trunk without feet are 30.5" x 16" x 16" The lock is no longer operational and stays closed with a magnet for convenience of use. It is heavy. Strong, sturdy and very usable. This is in used-vintage condition. The brass shows wear and use with scratches and tiny dings. Mostly concentrated on the top. This trunk has a lot going for it. With its flat top. It makes a nice coffee table. Once it gets aired out, it would be extra storage space. It is quite attractive, in a"shabby chic" sort of way. It is quite old, although I don't know where it came from. My mother had it in her attic for as long as I can remember(which is a pretty long time) For the past 8 years, it has been in storage. WE just got it out, but since we have 2 others, we really don't need this one. It is black, with brass fittings/edges, so its quite attractive. Unfortunately we didn't have the key so had to"pick" the lock. It will shut properly, so you can carry it, but won't lock. The leather handles on each end are well worn, but we were able to use them-carefully! to move the thing. Inside, it has a decent lining, which you can see in ... morephoto 6. There are 2 trays, neither one of which is the original, as they don't fit on the edges properly. The first, shown in photos 7 and 8, has 2 compartments and fastens with a couple leather straps with snaps(one is broken) The edges of this drawer are rather crushed(see photos 11 and 12) There is another tray underneath, which has some sort of dried goop, that probably was gooey at one point, as it has been covered with tape. VINTAGE, HAND-MADE, RED-OAK? CHEST WITH TWO DRAWERS & NEW ANTIQUE BRASS HARDWARE
I believe this is made from Red Oak. It actually has multiple tones so it might be several types. I found it in Brenham. TX and took it on as a refurbishing project. It has great wood tones, good craftsmanship and brand new hardware. This piece is awesome with lots of character, a one of a kind!
