Please be aware that these National Geographic Maps are between 30 to 80 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. Some of them also have been written on with the date and location. Usually on back but sometimes on the edges. They may also have tiny holes beginning to form where the fold lines meet. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion ... moremaps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Any damage that is above and beyond the norm will be disclosed.

Title: Indochina& Malay Description: This is a beautiful 1942 large format Japanese map of Indochina and Malay issued by the Japanese during World War II. Covers the modern day countries of Thailand. Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia(Sumatra) and Malaysia. Singapore is also noted on the map. This map was issued shortly after Japan invaded French Indochina and defeated the Vichy Regime. The invasion was in order to prevent the Republic of China from importing arms and fuel through French Indochina along the Sino-Vietnamese Railway, from the port of Haiphong through Hanoi to Kunming in Yunnan. WWII PILOT'S SILK 2 SIDED ESCAPE MAP-NAGASAKI& KAGOSHIMA JAPAN CA.1944
Up for auction is a WWII silk pilot's escape map of Nagasaki. Japan on one side and Kagoshima, Japan on the opposite side. The map measures approximately 22 by 26 but for practical purposes it has been folded many times to make it fit into the Pilot's gear. As a result, even though the map is in excellent condition and is fully intact, it has all those fold creases in it. Perhaps they could be ironed out but the fabric is silk and ironing silk is a delicate operation. This map has a lot of loose threads around the edges which can be snipped if desired. This map belonged to my brother-in-law who was a Captain Navigator during WWII and later in the Korean War where he survived after being shot down over Korea. He was shot down during WWII over Germany as well, and he survived in both instances. In addition to the maps of the two locations, ... morethere is a whole lot of detail printed in the borders. It has an English/Japanese glossary of terrain terms. It has a scale of 1:1,000,000. It has a"legend" identifying topography, an index to boundaries, an index to adjoining sheets(of which this one in only one part) and altitude levels plus information about the history of the map with dates and subsequent revisions. This is a fine piece of historical data of WWII in the far eastern theater of operation.
