Antique 19 2 4 map of the Dominion of Canada This map is 8 9 years old. Published in 19 2 4. It is in four pieces. Each one 2 8 inches wide and 52 inches long. The pieces fit tog ether to create a single map of Canada with one border around the outside. All of the pieces are in very good condition with the exception of the upper edges. Which ha ve several tears in them. These tears have been somewhat effectively. Though not very professionally, repaired by someone who applied white adhesive paper to the backs of the maps. The paper seems to have stopped further deterioration, although obviously the map should be framed and/or linen backed for proper con servation. The surfaces are clean and bright. I have for sale a nice old used twi section School Map From The Small Town Mineral IL. this school has been closed now for a few years, Map section on canvas measures approx. 55" in lenght and Approx. 43" in width, map does need a good cleaning, I was going to clean it but I didn't no what to use on it with damaging it so I left alone, does has a water spot on back at lower bottom as you can see in pictures, there is on small section on one end about 2" long wear the the map needs glued on round rood pull down bar, this a old used map so don't expect new, so take a good look at pictures. Very large RAND MCNALLY COSMOPOLITAN WORLD ON MERCATOR'S PROJECTION map measuring approximately 51 1/2" x 34" Although I did not find a date. I'm guessing it to from the late 1950's or early 1960's. I found it in a box lot of items purchased at an estate sale.everything in the box was from that time period. It doesn't appear to have had much use.maybe looked at a time or two and then folded up and stored away. There are no tears but does have creases from being folded as you can see in the photos. There are short edge tears and chipping in the margins. And at the corners, not affecting the image. There is a three inch tear at the top of the center fold and this does extend into the image. Great world map. 50" X 36" George Franklin Cram was a civil war veteran who marched with Sherman prior to his career as a map publisher. On March 18. 1867, George F. Cram and his uncle, Rufus Blanchard, founded the company Blanchard& Cram in Evanston, IL. The company manufactured and sold maps and atlases. Cram became the sole owner two years later and renamed it the George F. Cram Co. The company sold a wide variety of atlases, including the popular Unrivaled Atlas of the World, which was printed continuously from the 1880’s to 1952. In 1921. Cram sold his business to one of his largest customers, E.A. Peterson of the National Map Company. The companies were combined at 32 E. Georgia St. in Indianapolis. The Cram name survived the merger. On March 24, 1928, George F. Cram died at the age of 86. In 1932. The George F. Cram Company ... morebegan manufacturing globes. In 1936, the company moved again to 730 E. Washington St. That location is currently the Marion County Jail. Loren B. Douthit joined the company in 1937 as a School Sales Field Manager to develop the potential of the school market. Between 1937 and 1966. Cram developed a variety of educational maps and globes including the most usable globe in the classroom, Horizon Ring Globe. Loren Douthit became President and majority shareholder of the company in 1966. In March of 1968. Cram moved again to 301 S. LaSalle St. where it remained for 38 years. Loren Douthit retired in 1978, passing the torch to his two sons. William Douthit became President and John Douthit became Vice-President. The company remained in the Douthit family for 40 years until it was sold to another Indianapolis company. Herff Jones. This beautiful large-scale map of"Palestine or The Holy Land" was produced by Geographer to the Queen of Scotland. Alexander Keith Johnston and published in 1882 in his"Royal Atlas of Modern Geography. Johnston apprenticed to James Kirkwood& Sons, Engravers in 1820. In 1826, he partnered with his brother William in W. A.K. Johnston. He died July 9th, 1871 in Yorkshire but the business continued under his name until the late 1890's. The incredible level of detail provided is characteristic of this mapmaker This map shows all topography including mountains and physical features. Rivers and lakes, cities and towns, provinces and regions. The territory covered includes parts of modern day Israel, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, extending from the Dead Sea in the south to Tripoli in the north.
