Antique Odd Fellows World War 2 Memorial Banner Shadowbox Postcards OOAK WW II Hello Everyone. This is a rare Odd Fellows World War II Memorial Banner Shadowbox with Postcards. Likely One of a Kind Piece Folks. I call this a shadowbox memorial. It's much thinner than a traditional shadowbox. But the construction manner is the same. There is an american flag banner with the V for Victory. The banner has 7 blue stars added around the edge. One for each of the veterans on the postcards. Some postcards have different handwriting on them but most are written by the same person. See the pictures below. The postcards were printed in 1942 as indicated on the reverse. The frame is original and has some of the edge decoration broken off. There is some water staining around the pins and edges. The frame measures 25 x 30 1/2 inches. this is an exquisite antique very rare original shot glass off of the Gripsholm ship in 1925. It was the first transatlantic motor ship made. The Gripsholm made the first cruise in Swedish American Line's history in 1927. During World war 2 the Gripsholm was used as repatriation ships and made 33 voyages to exchange prisoners of war. Diplomats, women, and children, between the warring nations. As Sweden was a neutral country during the war. Antique handmade marble white lines with pontil point 8/16" inch WW 2 vet marble
This is a marble I found in a box of marbles owned by a 88 yr old WW2 veteran. All the marbles around it were M.F. Christensen but I'm not sure what this one is. It is handmade and the pontil point looks like it was smoothed out on one side. It has 4 white lines that swirl around the marble from top to bottom. It is 8/16" in size and does have dings on it but no chips. It is aqua blue like water in color and is not one I have seen before of the thousands of marbles I have bought and sold. On his journey to or from he purchased many fabulous items and they have been stored away in his military box since. This auction is for a wonderful lot of 51 Silver Filigree Buttons. 3 large with chains attached with what appears to be little feet. These buttons measure 1 1/4" in diameter and the length of each chain measures 5.5" in length. 24 large buttons in varying designs that measure 1" in diameter. 20 Medium buttons in varying designs that measure 7/8" in diameter. 4 small buttons in varying designs that measure 6/8" in diameter. I shined up a few to show you how well they shine up. None of these buttons appear to have anything wrong with them except tarnish. WW II Militaria/Naut. Antique. Anti-Aircraft Gun Sight off the Lexington (CV-2)
Thi s Minneapolis-Honeywell Mk 74 Ordnance Telescope(gun sight) was removed from the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lexington(CV-2) in mid-April. 1942, while she was anchored at Pearl Harbor, on Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands, for refitting. The anti-aircraft sighting scope was sent to the repair shop there for servicing. The Lexington set sail 3 days later, on April 15th, but without the gun sight. On May 1st. The gun sight was fixed(as marked on the manila repair tag) and sat there on the shelf at Pearl waiting for CV-2's return. Tragically, the carrier was never to make it back to the naval base again. On May 8th, 1942, during the Battle of the Coral Sea, the Lexington was horribly damaged by an onslaught of Nakajima B5N torpedo planes and other aircraft from the Japanese carrier, Shokaku. The horrific explosions of CV-2's aviation fuel ... moretanks and vast munitions stores nearly tore her in two, sealing the valiant carrier's fate. In the end, the mortally wounded"Lady Lex" was mercifully scuttled with torpedoes from a U.S. destroyer to prevent her capture, and to put out the"fire beacon" she had become for all Japanese warships in the area to home in on. After the war. This ordnance telescope was"surplused out" and forgotten, along with hundreds of thousands of tons of other forgotten materials and obsolete equipment from our military bases all over the world. This gunsight, however, has now resurfaced from the deep past. as if still waiting for the long-overdue warship to return. Note: This historic naval artifact will most-likely end up in a fine glass case in some war museum or private collection. But if I were the curator of the museum or the owner of the collection. I'd put it on the shelf of a plain, grey-metal parts-storage rack, up against a wall, with the ready-for-pickup tag showing. Period. On Feb-05-14 at 08:29:29 PST. Here is a LARGE 12 1/2 inch BRASS/ COPPER HELMSMAN C-10 ship communication tube. You can see from photos that this is 2 pieces. Photos 5 and 6 are the base. Photo 5 you can see a flip cover with a Latch that is closed on the ship when not in use. The copper cone is attached when being used and twists into the base. I believe the bottom base would have been attached to the outside deck on a ship. The sailor would attach the cone and yell or talk into the tube to communicate to other ship sailors or the HELMSMAN. One Antique Collectible W.W.II. Army Helmet. Then converted to A Office of the Civil Defense or O.C.D. I was told these old helmets were made in 1919 or so for WWI. And many of these were sent to the scrap yard to recycle as scrap metal, By the truck loads. And I was also told that some of these helmets never made it to the scrap yard and were taken off the truck for souvineers. Many that were left were converted to other areas.Like the Office of Civil Defense. There are not that many left Stamped O.C.D. 4921 Weight is about 2 pounds.
