VICTORIAN CIVIL WAR ERA AESTHETIC JOHN MEAD FIGURAL VINES CREAMER PITCHER JUG
VICTORIAN CIVIL WAR ERA AESTHETIC JOHN MEAD FIGURAL VINES CREAMER PITCHER JUG Search Up for auction is a Victorian stately creamer jug or creamer by Mead and Sons. Philadelphia, Pa. According to the book American Silver Manufacturers by Dorothy Rainwater, pg, 107, the Company of Mead and Sons was formed in or around 1846 by John O. Mead after he returned from a trip to England to learn the art of Electro silver plating in the 1840's. By 1859 Mead was considered the first successful American electro silver plater around. Mead used the Coin Mark for his business until the late 1850's when the firm name became Filey and Mead. Later still the firm name was changed to Mead and Robins. That said, this dates the cream pitcher to the 1850's. It is a beauty standing 7.5 inches tall and 6 inches wide from handle to spout. The inside is ... moreclean and usable, no dings or dents and beautiful silver plate that needs just a little polishing. There is a monogram on one side which is impossible to make out. It could be an FCM but because it is script and very decorative I cant read it. Looks more like a design than a monogram. This is a fantastic Victorian Civil War Era tea or cream pitcher. I nsurance is included in the cost of shipping. If you have a question just send us an email and we will answer all questions as soon All Florida Resident must add 6% sales tax to the end of the auction price. George Armstrong Custer(1839-1876) Flamboyant in life. George Armstrong Custer has remained one of the best-known figures in American history and popular mythology long after his death at the hands of Lakota and Cheyenne warriors at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Custer was born in New Rumley, Ohio, and spent much of his childhood with a half-sister in Monroe, Michigan. Immediately after high school he enrolled in West Point, where he utterly failed to distinguish himself ... morein any positive way. Several days after graduating last in his class, he failed in his duty as officer of the guard to stop a fight between two cadets. He was court-martialed and saved from punishment only by the huge need for officers with the outbreak of the Civil War. Custer did unexpectedly well in the Civil War. He fought in the First Battle of Bull Run, and served with panache and distinction in the Virginia and Gettysburg campaigns. Although his units suffered enormously high casualty rates- even by the standards of the bloody Civil War- his fearless aggression in battle earned him the respect of his commanding generals and increasingly put him in the public eye. His cavalry units played a critical role in forcing the retreat of Confederate General Robert E. Lee's forces; in gratitude, General Philip Sheridan purchased and made a gift of the Appomatox surrender table to Custer and his wife, Elizabeth Bacon Custer. In July of 1866 Custer was appointed lieutenant-colonel of the Seventh Cavalry. The next year he led the cavalry in a muddled campaign

EDWARD W. BOK, Editor, 320 State Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. U.S.A. Edward Bok. In his Pulitzer-Prize winning autobiography, The Americanization of Edward Bok(1921) Recounts his efforts to commemorate, a notable anniversary celebration in honor of Henry Ward Beecher. In which the entire city of Brooklyn was to participate. Bok recounted the affair in some detail which is better quoted in full: It was to mark a mile-stone in Mr. Beecher’s ministry and in his pastorate of Plymouth Church. Bok planned a worldwide tribute to the famed clergyman: he would get the most distinguished men and women of this and other countries to express their esteem for the Plymouth pastor in written congratulations. And he would bind these into a volume for presentation to Mr. Beecher on the occasion. He consulted members of the Beecher family, and, with their acquiescence, began to assemble the material. He was in the midst of the work when Henry Ward Beecher passed away. Bok felt that the tributes already received were too wonderful to be lost to the world, and, after again consulting Mrs. Beecher and her children, he determined to finish the collection and publish it as

This oversize and attractive lithographed 19th century sheet depicts in great detail the specific events and locations of the Civil War. Astoundingly detailed. With an emphasis upon precision and accuracy, attempting to capture visually and cartographically the regions and battles depicted. Unlike topographical maps or state maps of the era issued by most cartographers. The underlying premise of these Civil War maps was to depict the cartography as it specifically related to events of the Civil War. Thus, individual battles, small forts, troop movements, local rail lines, panoramic views, etc. are often rendered and explained with precision in a manner quite unique. Also, the very large format of the sheet allows for a level of detail which makes the map perfect for display or study by a Civil War buff, since the detail it contains is to be found almost no where else on this scale. In near VG. Mostly clean condition. Map displays numerous short minor edge-splits in the wide blank margins, all of which will disappear once the map is matted for display. Also some light minor age-wear- typical for maps of this era, and in no way offensive or severe

Civil War Atlas Map CAPE FEAR, N.C. from 1891 The Official Atlas to Accompany
I recently acquired around 40 plates from The Official Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies. This impressive set of 175 maps and plans was published in an edition of 1.000 copies and not available to the public from what I understand- and individual maps can sell for hundreds of dollars each. Antique Collectible Rare Silas Hoadley mid-1800s pre-Civil War Mantle Clock
I have a Silas Hoadley mantle clock made between 1835- 1855 in Plymouth Connecticut. It is an 8 day. 30 hour(+/ clock. It has wooden clock works. It is an O Gee or split column clock. Everything is wood including the dial, clock works, etc. All gears are in good condition. Its dimensions are: 14 1/2" wide x 29 3/4" tall x 4" deep. It has the original: Hands. Key, Latch, Ivory insert for key hole, Pendulum, Steel hands, and tablets. It has a placard that reads"UNION MUST BE PRESERVED" across top. It looks hand painted and original) This clock works good. Wind it up and put on the weights. And it will start working and keeping time. It is intended to sit on a mantle or shelf. Be forwarned: It becomes top heavy when wound. So it should be anchored using screw eye fastened to top back to prevent it from falling over) ... moreTHE"BAD" It has had a repair on the count wheel at some time in its life by a professional who replaced 2 teeth. The screws are missing from the bottom hinge. Winding key may or may not be original. Small piece of wood missing from top. Left, back side. Missing completely from right side. As shown in pics 8& 9) Pulley covers missing(for keeping dust off pulleys) It has been restrung with string that is too short. It needs to be restrung with proper length string so it will stay wound longer than 14 hours. Not sure if the weights are original. They seem to be a little light. This clock is very rare. The owner has only seen 1 other one in his life time.
