Up for auction is an old cast iron manufacturing plate for"Haynes& Son- Makers- S.L. City" From a google search. I found that the Salt Lake City Directory shows where a Henry and Hyrum Haynes had a business in Salt Lake City in the 1870's, which was named Haynes& Son. Unfortunately, it doesn't show what they"made" Other google entries show that Henry travelled to the US from England, and was of the Mormon faith. As for the plaque, it weighs five pounds, and measures approximately 6" x 8" x 1/2" As for condition, it is in it's as found condition, with no cleaning. Great old patina as-is, or it would look great with a coat of black gloss paint. Item comes from a smoke/pet free home. The arrow appears to be a purposely blunted Desert Sierra type, which were made 700- 200 years B.P. before present) or other similar type. The point is just BEAUTIFUL. Being made with EXCELLENT bifacial chipping patterns(Note the chipping patterns on the purposely blunted tip and AWESOME ears of the point! and out of the always INTRIGUING, semitranslucent, Obsidian ~ truly FABULOUS! The arrowhead measures 5/8" in length. Add this NEAT arrowhead to your collection! Additional note: There is much debate about what blunted tip arrowheads were really used for. Such as stunning the bird or animal so they could later try to domesticate them; to only knock the bird out to prevent damaging its ... moreprized feathers; or that they are really hafted scrapers. I would assume by the arrowhead's size that one could safely rule out the scraper hypothesis. I am leaning toward the point's usage as a tool for early domestication efforts, perhaps in attempting to raise rabbits or ground fowl.
