USGS Pocket Barometer Altimeter, Taylor, Vintage ca 1950s?
Vintage USGS Pocket Altimeter Barometer. This is a vintage pocket altimeter barometer that was probably used at one time by US Geological Survey personal for estimating altitude in the field. The unit is basically a barometer with an outer scale that reads elevation and that can be rotated to adjust for weather related pressure changes. Cosmetic condition is nice. However, please note two cracks in the case body as shown in the images. Also be aware the outer ring does turn, but it is very hard to turn. The case has a little bit of the stitching coming apart but is otherwise in normal used condition. This unit is 3" in diameter and was made by Taylor. Some are taped together so that I could look at the entire area and so they are matched up. There is: Vail West, Edwards, Cooked Creek Pass, Mount Jackson, Grouse Mountain, Wolcott, Fulford, Suicide Mountain, and Cottonwood Pass. They are folded and would have creaes but, pretty clean. It shows wagon roads, towns, and natural features on both sides of the Tygart River. The coverage area extends from Wilmoth to Brushy Mountain. And the exact longitude and latitude parameters are 79°30' W to 80°00' W and 38°30' N to 39°00' N. This auction is for two 1932 Geologic maps of Boston. MA measuring approximately 22" x 30" each. These maps were included as Plates 1 and 2 of the 1932 USGS Bulletin 839"Geology of the Boston Area Massachusetts" The first map(Plate 1) is titled"Map and Section Showing Areal Geology of the Boston and Boston Bay Quadrangles, Massachusetts" This map is of the Bedrock Geology. The second map(Plate 2) is titled"Map Showing Surficial Geology of the Boston and Boston Bay Quadrangles, Massachusetts" This map focuses on the glacial deposits. Both maps has been mounted on a canvas backing, laminated and rolled. They do show significant fading.
