Criccieth, Barmouth, Ffestiniog, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Trawsfynydd, Mallwyd, Portmadoc, Pentrefoelas, Llanbedyr, Cader Idris, etc. The map has had very little and careful use; the cover has slight bending and creasing at the corners. And has a faint rounded mark on the front. The map itself is in almost perfect condition, with only the very slightest sign of wear on the folded corners. It is highly detailed, even showing individual houses, schools, works, churches and covers an area of about one and a half square miles This highly detailed map shows Corwen in 1899. With the railway line being a prominent feature through the map, the line being closed in 1962. Corwen boasted six hotels which can be seen on the map, four of which are still running today. Three quarriess are visible to the south of the town, one of which is straight underneath the Corwen Union Workhouse which served six parishes in Merionethshire and seven in Denbighshire. A copy of the Index page with the date and publishing details is included for authenticity. It has a date of 1851 printed on the map. It is being sold as a single sheet not matted nor framed. Interesingly Sandy Hook is shown ... moreas an island at this time. Nice accurate detail of the coast line for the period. Size: The image area measures 19 by 23 inches on a 20 by 24" page as seen in the main pic. Condition: It is in Fair to Good condition for its age. Especially for a folding map. It is blank on the reverse with multiple folds as issued, basically as seen in the pics. The main horizontal fold has basically split and has been professionally repaired on the reverse with archival Japanese paper, hardly noticeable. There is some double creasing along the fold and slight wear with a couple of nicks and short tears on the edges. Otherwise it is very clean on still very pliable paper.
