Map shows all transportation lines as existed and other points of interest as it was in 1901. Five years before the major earthquake and fire. Would look fantastic framed under glass. Measures 21" by 31 1/2" and is in excellent condition on sturdy paper. It is a US Coast Survey map and apparently predates Golden Gate Park or any houses in the entire western 1/2 of the city. This is a vintage 1968 Limited Edition#174/500 reproduction of a pre-Gold Rush map of Yerba Buena. The original name for San Francisco. It in in color and shows the waterfront with boats and a very few streets and buildings. The paper is heavy and sturdy and the map has no tears. It has very wide borders on the right and left and the left border has spots. Perhaps fingerprints? so it is in very good condition. On the back in pencil it says this is a lithograph. 12.00 12.00 A Scarce 1915 San Francisco Universal and International Exposition that was apparently part of the Panama Pacific International Exposition(PPIE) 20 page booklet from the Paris. Lyons and Mediterranean(PLM) Railway Company. This short lived Railway Company was taken over by the National Railroad Company(SNCF) sometime after the end of WWI and before WWII. The booklet has a foldout 7 1/2 x 19 inch down through the French Alps. The booklet was apparently given out at the PPIE and has much information about the PLM Railway and indicates the PLM is one of the World's leading Railway systems. The booklet states in part"UNIVERSAL AND INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION OF SAN FRANCISCO, FEBRUARY- NOVEMBER 1915, THE PARIS. Printed more than 150 years ago. The image area measures a very generous 67.4 x 90.3 cm[26-1/2" x 35-1/2" And the map is drawn on a scale of 1:50,000. Details include soundings and bottom conditions, with statistics on tides. The coverage area extends from Hunters Point(labeled Point Avisadera) in the southeast part of San Francisco to Redwood City and Alviso. In San Jose. The map locates numerous landings, creeks, and sloughs, as well as a large area labeled"Shell Banks" between San Mateo and San Bruno. This is primarily a nautical chart with minimal inland detail. But it does show wagon roads and scattered buildings. Specific named places ... moreinclude Union City, Johnsons Landing, Belmont, Ravenswood, San Francisquito Creek, Mayhews Landing, Sierra Point, Steinbergen's Creek, Alviso Slough, Calaveras Point, and more. The triangulation and topography survey was conducted by R. D. Cutts and A. E. Rodgers. And the hydrography was accomplished by parties under the command of James Alden and R. M Cuyler. See below* Eureka Homestead Association San Francisco: Towne and Bacon. 1864 or 1865] Roughly 19.5 by 16.5 inches. Printed in black with block labels in maroon ink. An original map(the"Copy" in the title indicates this is a printed reproduction of a hand-drawn map) of a portion of the Castro district of San Francisco. Bounded by Douglas, 17th, Noe and 20th Streets. This is a subdivision map, meaning it lays out lots for future development. An unusual map in that it is entirely printed using lead type. ... moreWith rules of various thicknesses utilized for the block outlines. A very unusual letterpress map. Note the gaps and breaks in the line due to odd pieces used to print this. Maps printed using handset type are very scarce. This one is printed on very thin paper and the"bite" of the type is easily felt on the back. Listed in OCLC. But with no locations(but probably owned by Bancroft) From Wikipedia In 1845 José de Jesús Noé was granted Rancho San Miguel. Four thousand acres(16 km²) stretching from Twin Peaks into Noe and Eureka valleys. In 1854 John M. Horner purchased the ranch and laid out Horner's Addition in a grid bounded by Castro Street on the west, Valencia Street on the east, 18th Street on the north and 30th Street on the south. Eureka Valley was part of the Mission Dolores subdivision but was not developed until the 1890s and the early 1900s.4] The opening of the Market& Castro Street Cable Car line in 1886 opened Eureka Valley to development— primarily small wood-frame cottages and two-story flats. The only industry in the area was a mattress factory on the block bounded by Market. Dolores, and Fifteenth streets.4] Most resident
