Looking over these maps I am amazed at how many differences there are today. Sellers Inventory no. M1898002306/07) Condition: The map has light discoloration. As expected for it's age and may appear slightly curled in the photo, however it will lay flat. Please use the photos to determine the condition of the map. It is a slighty faded on the upper half of globe, but that does not change the beauty of it. Other than that, the seams and the globe is are in perfect condition to me. The mountains are ridged, as that is how the globe was made. This gives you a great idea of what type of landscape is in every continent. Vintage Randy McNally world portrait raised relief globe. It measures 12"wide and 16" tall. Globe spins well and is in good shape. There is a small rust spot on the base I try to show in the pics. Otherwise rest of base is in good shape. The rust is just a surface spot does not penetrate through the bottom. Underneath of the base is clean it has a marbled pattern. I have dated it to c1948. It is possible it was made for a light fitment to go inside as the hole at the base is certainly large enough to allow this and I think would look fabulous. I bought this from an estate where the gentleman had a wooden base made for it. The base in itself is great as well as it has been delicately carved into the pedestal to fit the globe. The pedestal base is floor standing and measures 24 inches tall. It is made by Rand McNally in Chicago. USA and is 16" in diameter. 1" on the globe = 500 miles.The hole in the bottom has a diameter of 5.5 inches. An uncommon transitional issue of this huge map with boundaries and features not likely found on earlier or later issues of it. A monumental. Almost wall-size map,not to be confused with the much more common small atlas maps by Rand McNally. In VG. Mostly clean condition, couple small thumb smudges in spots. Paper very gently toned at margins- hardly noticeable and in no way visually offensive. Otherwise map remains clean and quite well-preserved. Sheet size c. 27 1/2" W x 20 1/2" H. Image area c. 25 3/4" W x 19" H. Folio. Original fold line as issued. 8956] Any ... moredefects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Antique Rand McNally Globe BASE ONLY- Copper Plated Cast Iron Circa Late 1800's
This is a vintage late 1800's antique footed globe stand made of copper plated case iron for a Rand McNally globe. The base is aprox 6 1/2" high and 11" from foot to foot. The center hole is 1/4" diameter. The base weighs 2 lbs. 12 oz. It is different than other bases I have commonly seen from the era, and is signed on the three ovals, first with"R" then with"McN" and then a"Co" Of course the base could be used for a globe stand, lamp base, or anything else that requires a sturdy antique base.
