MAUCHLINE POCKET WATCH HOLDER CA 1900 This is a souvenir from Norwich. England. On one side is the market place and guildhall. On the opposite side is the Cathedral. The sloping front has a velvet lined depression to hold a gentleman's pocket watch. There is also a lined compartment under the sloping front for a watch chain and/or key and perhaps a pair of cuff links. The bottom is covered in leather to prevent scratching. The holder is made from sycamore highly prized for its straight grain and fine texture. There is a small rub visible in the photograph and a tiny chip which is under the finish.

This sunwatch was manufactured by the Outdoor Supply Company. Inc. N.Y. USA. There are two patent dates on the sunwatch- April 20, 1920#463040; and May 10, 1921#147513. The clasp is still good and closes completely and the compass does work. The chart on the inside lid is completely readable. All the numbers on the dial are very clearly marked. Antique long neck gilt pocket compass by Robert Bate circa 1820
This is a stunning Georgian long neck pocket compass signed‘Bate London’ on the white enamel face. The maker is Robert Brettel Bate(1782-1847) who was optician to George IV and later William IV in 1830. And some of his instruments now reside in many museums. Dating to around 1820. It’s in good working order with a functioning transit lock activated by a sliding lever behind the stem. Cosmetically it’s in very good condition retaining virtually all its original gilding. With a very clean dial, above which is a cross bar needle, pivoting on a gemstone bearing. The domed glass crystal is clean and free from any scratches. The only blemish being a very small edge chip on the under side of the bevel in the 12 o’clock position, but not very noticeable. Measuring 40 mm diameter. Not including the stem which extends a further 20mm including the suspension ... morering, Georgian compasses of this design with a makers name are very rare, particularly in such fine condition.
