Part of the U.S. Capitol land is on the bottom right of the map. This area has changed a bit, as Louisiana Avenue now runs from Pennsylvania Avenue halfway between 2nd and 1st Streets and runs across North Capital Street at Indiana Avenue. Parts of Area 633 on this map are part of that road and the bottom portion is now the Robert E. Taft Memorial and Carillon. Part of Indiana Avenue now runs underground into the 3rd Street Tunnel at C Street It runs under the U.S. Employment and Training Administration Building, which now takes up all of Areas 573 and 574. The Passenger Station for the B&O Railroad is now apart of Union Station and this area now houses the Japanese American Memorial. This map measures approximately 28 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches. APPROVED TYPE SERIAL V10 SERIES 310 Capacity: 20 lbs(pounds) The dial face. Pointer and body are enamel painted steel. Dial face measures 8 inches in diameter with a thickness of 1-5/8th inches. Condition is very good to excellent with some minor scrapes on the raised edge(SEE PHOTOS) The dial numbers and wording are not scratched or faded. Minor age. Use and storage soiling and scuffs present. Minor surface rust spots on unpainted steel surfaces present. The scale functions and the pointer adjustment screw functions. The scale comes with a large preformed steel double side attachment hanger with pan. This set was personally initialed on the bottom and looks like CGB. The mother of pearl is clean with no damage and the binoculars work very nicely and the adjustment moves freely. 1777 Windsor Chair made by Wm. Bowen of Philadelphia
Information that I have gathered about the chair: 1777 early American Windsor Bow Back chair. The chair has scratched on the underside of the seat the name“W BOWEN” and a date“1777” In correspondence with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. They stated that there was a William Bowen making chairs in Philadelphia, in the later part of the 1700’s. Through research and census information. William Bowen made Windsor chairs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at 83 North Front Street 19106(near the hay scales) during the 1770's and 1780's. The chair was found in my grandfather’s attic. In Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, but how it arrived in Nova Scotia, is not known to my living relatives. Six generations back, I had an ancestor who was stationed in New York, during the American Revolution, who resettled in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, after ... morethe war) One interesting note. MAY 1.1796 FIRST EDITION- MAP OF SPAIN& PORTUGAL BY MATTHEW CAREY, PHILADELPHIA, TOPOGRAPHICAL MAP PRINTED FROM A COPPER PLATE- FRAMED IN FINE OAK FRAME WITH ARCHIVAL GLASS AND READY FOR HANGING“SPAIN AND PORTUGAL FROM THE BEST AUTHORITIES. Copper engraving printed on high linen content paper by Matthew Carey. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 1, 1796. This lovely map long ago came from“Matthew Carey's American Edition General Atlas of Guthrie's Geography improved. The map was finely framed under archival glass with a nicely tooled Oak frame and then expertly backed with a fine twisted wire for hanging. We have never removed the map from its original framing. The outside measurements of the frame are 15-1/4” tall x 17-3/4” wide or 38.7, 45cm. The inside measurements of the map as framed are 13-11/16” tall x 16-1/8” wide or 34.9, ... more41cm. The map unframed is approximately 35.6, 42.3cm. The publisher date, title, location are just beneath the inside of the bottom of the top of the frame and not possible to identify. The distances on the map are measured with 2 methods: British Statute Miles” and“Spanish Miles” Degrees West Longitude From London” are given in the lower left corner of the map. The map has a small amount of old moisture stain in the bottom right margin– nothing compromised. The map is immaculate and aged to an ivory color with just the original crease running vertically down the middle of the map. Which was the center fold of the map as it was bound in the book. The crease is now quite flattened. There are some reflections in our photos and so please note that the color of the map is very uniform. This lovely map is tremendously detailed topographical map printed from a copper plate. Hotel Walton Philadelphia Silverplate Creamer Crown Wolf Head Crest Gorham 1916
This silverplate creamer is about 3 inches tall at the back of the handle. And 6 ½ inches wide from spout tip to the back of the handle. It is marked Hotel Walton Philadelphia. GMCo EP, 04242, 4 Oz, and also has a hatchet type symbol, Gorham’s 1916 date stamp. This piece has a crest on the side depicting an animal/ wolf head over a crown. This creamer is made from heavy duty restaurant/hotel grade sivlerplate. The finish is somewhat worn/ dulled. With some darkened areas, and the surface has scratches and some tiny surface dings typical of this type of ware. The creamer looks a little darker and less shiny in normal light than it appears in my photos. Overall good vintage condition on this elegantly shaped hotel creamer. Thank you for looking at this listing! This is a 10" diameter Dark Blue Historical transferware plate in the"Fair Mount near Philadelphia" pattern by Joseph Stubbs. Who operated in Longport, Staffordshire between 1822 and 1834, making this piece at least 175 years old. The plate is in very good condition with only the two backside and chips that were repaired a long time ago. As seen in the close up photo. The repair is barely on the rim edge. Otherwise, there are no other chips, cracks, or hairlines. It has a nice ring to it when thumped. The plate has all of the other desirable characteristics including nice blue pearl glaze on the backside and a"STUBBS" logo stamped into the bottom. Lovely Antique Coin Silver Snuff Box Pill Box TW & Co Philadelphia?
This is a beautiful coin silver snuff box with ornate engine turning. Engraving of flounces and a rose. The inside is gilt. The edge is signed TW& Co. It is 2.5” x 1 5/8” x ½” and weighs 1.35 tray ounces. American snuff boxes are rare. This one c.1860 was made by a silversmith who seems to have specialized in card cases. Since most American card cases came out of Philadelphia that is my guess. It still closes. But as you can see in the photos one of the edges is slightly off by about 1/32 of an inch. The This is an original ad taken from a Carpentry& Building magazine dated July 1892. Interestingly. The range pictured says"M& D" on it and I can read"Mason" and"Davis" on it also. I did not find any connection between the companies, but the buyer may want to look into that further. It does appear to me that James Spear has patents for ranges and"cook-stoves" in the early 1900's and the company had its own name on a range for sure by 1911. Hi and welcome to my auction. For your bidding consideration is a vintage red elephant key. The elephant's name is"TRUNKEY" and was manufactured by Audio Systems. Inc. of San Francisco, California. Approximate measurements of 3-3/8" in length and 1-5/8" in height. As shown in the second picture, found in the trunk inset, are the words PAT. PEND. The body left side says"Key to the Zoo" while the right side says"Visit Your Zoo Often" This was sold by The Zoological Society of Philadelphia for use at The Philadelphia Zoological Garden. Insertion into the more than 40 Talking Storybooks placed throughout the zoo enabled the user to learn many fascinating things about the animals seen there. This is a recent Lancaster County. Pennsylvania estate sale acquistion and is in very good condition and was probably ... moreonly used one time. It is clean and straight. As a bonus, this also has the original card which was attached. Often these are missing. It is my hope that a collector is looking for a color variation to add to their collection, complete with card. I would suspect that these keys were universal and could be used in other zoos. Up for auction tonight is a pre prohibition era pottery beer mug. This one is advertising for Robert Smiths Ale Brewing Co. of Philadelphia PA. This is the tougher Brown Stout variation in green. This one is harder to find than the Musty Ale one in brown. The mug measures 4" high x 2-1/2" in diameter. Very good condition with the normal crazing to the glazed finish. Has a couple of tight hairlines inside of the mug. Marked on the bottom Chester Hotel China. A very nice displayable add to your mug or stein collection. This one may improve with some cleaning.
