This rare and interesting map shows the route of the original OREGON TRAIL the proposed route for the future NORTHERN PACIFIC TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILROAD crossing the region. It also shows the location of dozens of Western Indian Tribal lands. A number of wagon roads are tracked throughout western OREGON and WASHINGTON. And the exploration route of John Fremont in 1843 is shown as well. This is a RARE and interesting map with a HUGE amount of detail on it. Note that the upper border is narrow and very rough but this does not effect the map itself which would display very nicely if matted and framed. Map pages from the The Twentieth Century Peerless Atlas and Pictorial Gazetteer The book was published in 1901. The maps are generally not individually marked with a copyright date. Large m ap of Arizona/ New Mexico and Washington/ Oregon States are on opposite sides of atlas page. Original page measures 11" X 13-1/2" Most of the maps in this book do not show copyright dates. However, those that do show dates were copyrighted between 1895 and 1899. + + + There is some typical darkening from age and handling around the edges of the pages. But overall in good condition for a document that is 110 years old! All of my maps are originals. I do not destroy good books. But rescue pages from damaged and ruined atlases. Shool houses, ranches, military roads, mines in addition to creeks, rivers and prominent geographical features. The back of the map has a discription of topographic symbols used on USGS maps. Dimensions: 16x12in or 41x31cm. This is an original antique double sided page or leaf from the 1943 WWII Wartime published Encyclopedia Britannica Atlas. Please note that this is not a lot for two separate images but rather this is a page with two sides. Each with a map of it's own. There are some condition issues with this map: minor discoloration along the page edges and brittle paper. No major tears or creases or holes. It is in largely Good to Very Good condition. Given it's age. This specific map features on one side the state of Oregon and it's Pacific Coast. It's counties are nicely delineated. And it's cities and towns are clearly labelled. There is an inset in the top left of the map featuring Portland, Salem and the vicinity. A very nice map. On the other side is the state of Oklahoma. Rare Vintage 1948 RAILROAD Map Old Oregon Trail and 1800’s Union Pacific
Hello and Welcome! This auction is for a very historic and rare vintage Map of the Old Oregon Trail which was a wheeled-wagon route and emigrant trail. The map is not a photocopy. It was issued in 1948 by the Union Pacific Railroad to commemorate the centennial celebration of the Old Oregon Trail. And admission of the Oregon Territory into our Union. Included with the map. Is a letter that was signed from C.J. Collins, Traffic Manager, of the Union Pacific Railroad, dated December 1, 1948. The original mailing tube that the map and letter was shipped in is also included. Which shows a 1948 postmark stamp. The Union Pacific Railroad lines. At least in 1948, parallels much of the Old Oregon Trail(historic west-to-east trail connected to the Missouri River to Oregon) The Union Pacific Railroad, headquartered in Omaha Nebraska, is the largest ... morerailroad network in the United States. The map not only shows the Old Oregon Trail. But many other trails as well from the 1800’s, and one as early as 1785– the Old Spanish Trail. The lower right of the map contains the artist name. Irvin Shope, and dated’48. Throughout his career, Shope received encouragement and instruction from some of the West's greatest artists, such as E. S. Paxson, Will James, and Harvey Dunn, who was both his teacher and mentor. Like all of these artists, Shope did many various types of works such as illustrating books and calendars, drawing maps of Western exploration for school classrooms, while continuing to paint the men and women of the historic West. Shope was a charter member of the Cowboy Artists of America. He died in 1977 at age seventy-seven; one of the last Western artists able to trace his artistic lineage directly to one of the two men who inspired the formation of the CAA– Charlie Russell. The map is in a large size- about 25" long and 18" high. Would look awesome on a wall. This is a vintage road map of Oregon by the H.M. Gousha Company for Richfield Stations published in 1962. This map predates the merger with Atlantic. Creating ARCO, and is well before ARCO became a part of BP. One side shows the state, an inset of Portland area, and an index of counties and towns. The reverse has insets of downtown Portland, Eugene, Salem and Klamath Falls, and Vancouver, WA. It also has a map of Crater Lake and the Mount Hood Loop Highway. There is also a continental US map showing the federal highways, but not the Interstates and a mileage chart for towns in Oregon. The state map does show the Interstates, namely I-5 and I-80N. 1931 map of Oregon. 11.25" X 15" Detailed. Genuine. Very Rare, read why!
This is a 1931 map of Oregon. It is from a scarce Cram's Atlas. The map measures 11.25 X 15 inches. It is in near mint condition showing only minor handling. Buyer will get a printed out page size copy of the index page. This is superior to any"Certificate of Authenticity" which are normally printed out on the sellers own computer. We send this to prove map was extracted from this extremely rare atlas and to help with insurance appraisals as the map will surely increase in value. There are a few reasons this map is rare. And more difficult to obtain than a Cram's map of the late 1800's. In 1931 the United States and the World was in a catastrophic depression. Thus Cram's did not print as many, and very few people had the money to buy this atlas. Most surviving copies are the ones in Libraries and Universities. Condition: It is in Fair to Good condition printed on a light buff page. Blank on the reverse with original handcoloring and a centerfold as issued. It is basically as seen in the pics. There is some handling smudges, backprinting, slightly bent corners and an inch split along the bottom of the centerfold, see the pics form more on condition. Overall, it does have a strong impression with nice color with a desireable antique appearance that would frame up very well. Pics are of the actual map and accurate of the color. This auction is only for the map that is pictured in this listing. I cannot stress enough how beautiful this map is up close compared to the photos that you see. Note that the photos do not do the map justice. This is truly an incredible map to behold! This is your chance to own a map that can be the centerpiece of your collection. Details: Awesome hand colored map of the US West. First of all the map displays all of the western territories before statehoods. It is rare to see"North West Territory" on a US map because they only occurred for a few years between the Missouri Territory name for the region and the when it was later changed to Nebraska Terr etc a few years ... morelater. The map shows all of the state and territory populations. For example Utah is only showing 11,000 people living there and California 166,000. California was only a state for a few months. Many unexplored a little populated areas. The map is pre Gadsden as you can see by the Arizona New Mexico border being irregular and not as it is today. This map does not come up for sale that often and especially in this great of condition. General Description: 1. Strikingly interesting and highly detailed map. Hand colored. The map depicts in great detail all of the geographical information known at the time the map was published. Note that many geographical details have changed since the map was published and were not accurate compared to today's modern maps because things were fully discovered and accurately mapped yet. Map symbols and details include individual towns. Rivers, lakes, bays, harbors, islands, mountains, forests, roads and other important places as shown on the map in this listing. 2.
