This is a rather large 12 7/8 by 17 ½ inch sheet map showing data from 1895-96 and published by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1900. The scale of the map is 1:125.000, and the contour interval 100 feet. The map is about 12 7/8 by 17 ½ inches on a sheet about 16 ¾ by 20 ½ inches. Folded to about 7 ¼ by 11 inches. This map is Plate CXXVII from the U.S. Geological Survey publication: Twenty-First Annual Report 1899-1900 Part V Forest Reserves- Maps. It was issued folded to fit the size of the Report volumes. It is a nice looking map of the Coos Bay area that shows the Pacific Ocean on the west and covers about 15 to 20 miles inland from the coast. Coos Bay and the Coos River are in the northern one third of the map. Some of the names on the map are: Myrtle Point. Coquille, Riverton, Parkersburg, Randolph, Bandon, Beaverton, Southport, Coos City, Marshfield, Porter, North Bend, Empire, Sumner, Fairview, Lee, and Gravelford. This is a rather large 14 ¾ by 17 ½ inch sheet map showing data from 1897-98 and published by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1900. The scale of the map is 1:125.000, and the contour interval 100 feet. The map is about 14 ¾ by 17 ½ inches on a sheet about 17 by 20 ½ inches. Folded to about 7 1/8 by 11 inches. This map is Plate CXXVI from the U.S. Geological Survey publication: Twenty-First Annual Report 1899-1900 Part V Forest Reserves- Maps. It was issued folded to fit the size of the Report volumes. It is a nice looking map of the Port Orford area that shows the Pacific Ocean on the west and covers about 20 to 25 miles inland from the coast. Cape Blanco extends ... morethe map into the sheet margin on the west. The Rogue River wanders off and on along the southern edge and the northern edge is at 43 degrees north. Some of the names on the map are: Port Orford. Agness, Ophir, Frankport, Denmark, Langlois, Bancroft, and Etelka. This is a topographic map with roads and towns which is overprinted with patterns that show timber resources and land classifications. There are seven land classes in the legend: 1. Cultivated land; 2. Grazing land; 3. Burned areas restocking; 4. Merchantable timber 10.000 to 25.000 feet B.M. per acre; 5. Merchantable timber 25.000 to 50.000 feet B.M. per acre; 6. Merchantable timber 50.000 feet B.M. and over per acre; and 7. Barren land. This large map would make a great display item. Its reference value is enormous as this is the first professional survey of these forest reserves. Which later became National Forests and shows the conditions as of 100 years ago. This is a beautiful map of Washington& Oregon. It was taken from a salvaged antique atlas. Each map has the population figures from 1900. So it must have been printed shortly thereafter. It measures 10 1/2 X 13 1/2 inches. This map is in near excellent condition. Couple nicks in left margin caused by how map was bound in atlas. Paper shows normal aging and very light age spots. This map would look fantastic framed under glass. Shows many towns and locations that no longer exist. A true historical item. Investment quality. The map notes several important towns, cities, mountain ranges, including the Cascades and the Blue Mountains, with relief shown by hachures. This is for the map you see in the pictures. This is a big map at 11 x 14-1/2 inches from edge to edge. The map is in great condition with no rips or marks in the map part and just slight toning to the page. This is a double or triple sided map and will include the states in the title. Some of the map pages are made together as they have a 2 page map on the inside and a single one on the back of each side of that. You will have to look carefully at the pictures as that is the maps you will get. I have a lot of other maps on from this atlas and will combine shipping. This atlas was already divided into the maps before I bought it so this is how you will get the maps. This is a very hard to find book and not a common atlas. Cartographer: Alvin Jewett Johnson(September 23. 1827- April 22, 1884) was a prolific American map publisher active from 1856 to the mid-1880s. Johnson was born into a poor family in Wallingford, Vermont where he received only a based public education. He is known to have worked as school teacher for several years before moving to Richmond, Virginia. Johnson got his first taste of the map ... morebusiness and a salesman and book canvasser for J. H. Colton and company. The earliest Johnson maps were published with D. Griffing Johnson(no clear relation) and date to the mid-1850s, however it was not until 1860 that the Johnson firm published its first significant work, the Johnson's New Illustrated(Steel Plate) Family Atlas. General Description: 1. Strikingly interesting and highly detailed map. Original hand coloring. The map depicts in great detail all of the geographical information known at the time the map was published. Note that many geographical details have changed since the map was published and were not accurate compared to today's modern maps because things were fully discovered and accurately mapped yet. Office Expl. Survey Nov. 1858. Map from the Senate Ex Doc No 1 and House Ex Doc No 2 of the 2nd Session of the 35th Congress. The map is about 17 by 18 inches. The troop explorations shown include many in Texas. The Rocky Mountains, Florida, and the West Coast. Routes to and from the east coast are included. The condition is normal for this map and includes browning along the fold lines which is typical for this map for some reason. There are miss-folds. Especially in the middle. There are two old tape repairs to the back, one affecting the front of the map below and to the right of the title box area. 2 ORIGINAL antique 1868 maps from JOHNSON'S New Illustrated FAMILY ATLAS printed on one large page. On the left page is a map of OREGON and WASHINGTON STATE. The right page is a map of MINNESOTA. The map of MINNESOTA shows a handful of railroads at the time while the OREGON/WA map shows numerous proposed rail routes. Both maps show scores of overland roads many of which are named that include Emigrant Roads(one of which is the Oregon Trail) Early explorer routes, mine roads, wagon routes, and stage coach routes. Counties are individually named and hand water colored. The map also shows the location of dozens of Western Indian Tribal lands. This is a RARE and interesting map with a HUGE amount of detail on it. Among the finest maps produced during the 19th Century. Johnson's maps were used extensively during the Civil War.
