This sign is 60 inches wide and 5-1/4 inches tall. The color of the sign is a vibrant orange, with cobalt blue letters, outlined in white. When you rub your fingers across the letters, you can feel the heavy shelving(thickness of the porcelain layers) and the gloss is excellent. But it appears to be a sign that might have mounted on an Oil Display Island Rack. I believe I purchased this from a dealer at Carlisle or Hershey Penn. years ago. A very hard to find sign, I've only seen a couple of these, and this one is a survivor. The size is 13" x 18-1/2" This auction is only for the quaker city sign. Other items shown in photos, are in seperate auctions. Pennsylvania oil was the"go to" oil for most of the old/original petroleum dealers. It appears that most all of the companies wanted their business associated with Pennsylvania oil. I've been collecting for over 30 years, and I've seen advertisments on ... moremany different companies products relating to Penn. Oil. The colors on this sign are bold, not faded in the slightest. Visually, this sign is a killer piece. A large oil can, with raised letters(Embossed) stating"Quaker City" The can is White and Orange, with Blue letters, and highlites. In the center line of the can, is a city skyscape, with tall buildings, a church, clock tower, water tanks etc. Four small mounting holes on the corners. These holes have not been enlarged, or offset by some larger bolt mounting to a structure. The Gloss is wonderful. The Embossing is bold, and easily felt and seen. This sign has lots of little nicks, dings, and minor scratches. The sign is high gloss, and did pose some problems getting good photos without a glare. The largest scratch is between the top edge of the sign, and the lithograph of the can top rim. left of center) There are some rubs on the letters"quaker city" which I believe happened because they stick out from the sign. This is truly one of the RAREST gas& oil advertising signs we have ever had. This is a 1930's PURE OIL Co. Tiolene Motor Oil tin sign. This is a sign that just didnt have many survivors. Try and find another.I purchased it from the grandson of a late gentlmen that aquired a pair of these directly from a retired station owner. Makers mark& name on the lower right hand corner reads: Enameled Steel Sign Co. CHI" It is tin with a nice wooden frame. Frame is solid( has a nicely glued split on the left side) really unoticable. Wood seams back together nicely. Measures app. 72" x 20" Sign is a beauty but does have some scratches ... moreand minor dings/dents here and there. These signs were almost impossible to keep mint as they were tin. There are no holes or rust at all. Just surface rust in some spots were the paint was scratched. Here is a vintage plaque issued by Humble Oil& Refing Co. It is marked"Blue Chip Service Program" and given to R. C. Huffines in 1966 for being a Top Salesman. The plaque is wood with a brass plate that is enameled blue in the center with all the writing and the Humble logos. It has some minor scratches and shows some age wear. Also.
