BACKGROUND AND PROVENANCE: Part of a collection of Petroleum Industry documents belonging to A. F. Allen Brown(1858-1898) of Jamestown. NY. Mr. Brown was an oil investor and an expert in the field of oil and gas production and analysis. His January 27th, 1898 obituary in the Jamestown Evening Journal said"he won and always held the highest esteem of Andrew Carnegie and officials of the Standard Oil Company. It goes on to say that he sold his interests in oil fields near Pittsburgh to Andrew Carnegie"and at different times was offered most advantageous positions with the Standard company, the officers of which regarded him as one of the best practical gas and oil men in the country. Mr. Brown was just 39 years old when a sudden attack of diphtheria left him dead in a Pittsburgh hotel. I will be separately listing a number of items belonging to A. F. The Royal-Liverpool Groups map of New York City and the NY World's Fair 1939. Tri folded cover shows the fair grounds and lists some of the exhibitors. Inside of tri fold has a map of mid-town and lists theatres and motion picture theatres and night and supper clubs and points of interest. Fully unfolded measuring 21 1/2 inches by 15 1/2 inches the map is of the automobile routes to the World's Fair. The inside half shows the subway and elevated routes. Map is in excellent condition with very little wear on the corners and the edges. Would make a great framed piece.

The front has information about fair booths, routes in and out of the fair including George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel and the Holland Tunnel. When folded, the pamphlet measures 10" by 5" When fully open, it measures 19" by 13" The pamphlet is in overall excellent condition with no tears or hand writing. Property spanned 4000 acres on the bank of the Delaware river in Sullivan County, near Rock Lake and Davis Lake and the Ten Mile River. The hills of this section form a portion of the same chain as the catskill Mountaiins of NY, the Pocono Mountains of PA and the Black Mountains of NC. Tusten. NY is near Narrowsburg, the Ten Mile River Scout Camp, Beaver Brook Cemetery, the Minisink Battleground, and Masthope NY.
