For your consideration is this 1936 Shell road map of ARIZONA/NEW MEXICO.because I am not an expert in rating of maps I am going to rely on my pictures to show its condition! Please view closely and ask questions if necessary.I will point out that this map has no soiling except discolor from age.no tears.no markings and no creases where there shouldn't be.There is one tiny hole on the top of the fold between the front and back cover(see pic 4)and a tiny almost unnoticeable shiny dot above the"l" in the white at the top of the cover!There is some minor wrinkling on the Grand Canyon map and the Albuquerque map. see pic# Those being the worst problems and maybe the only ones.My honest guess is this map is very good to near mint.I WILL HAVE SEVERAL MAPS FOR SALE SO COMBINED SHIPPING IS POSSIBLE JUST DO NOT PAY UNTIL BILLED.

This is a 1931 map of New Mexico. It is from a scarce Cram's Atlas. The map measures 11.25 X 15 inches. It is in near mint condition showing only minor handling. Buyer will get a printed out page size copy of the index page. This is superior to any"Certificate of Authenticity" which are normally printed out on the sellers own computer. We send this to prove map was extracted from this extremely rare atlas and to help with insurance appraisals as the map will surely increase in value. There are a few reasons this map is rare. And more difficult to obtain than a Cram's map of the late 1800's. In 1931 the United States and the World was in a catastrophic depression. Thus Cram's did not print as many, and very few people had the money to buy this atlas. Most surviving copies are the ones in Libraries and Universities. ... moreAlso, during World War 2, 1941-1945, the United States had many paper drives, pleading with the public to donate paper for the war effort. Official Geograph de Monseigneur le Dauphin, this map covers from Cape Mendocino(California) to the Gulf of Mexico and the mouth of the Mississippi River(mis-mapped) and from Santa Fe to Mexico City. Place names are identified both textually and numerically referencing a table of 314 specific locations in the upper right quadrant. As the ... moretitle suggests, De Fer based this map on documents sent to the Monsieur Regis at the Paris Academie Royale des Sciences by a'Spanish Grandee' This was most likely refers to Carlos de Siguenza y Gongora, the Spanish Royal Geographer in Mexico City, who prepared a manuscript version of Kino's map in 1696(a copy of this manuscript survives in the Jesuit Library of Rome) The original missive was most likely intended for Guillaume Delisle, a highly respected French cartographer who held the title of Geograph de Roi. However, as Geograph de Monseigneur le Dauphin, De Fer would also have had access, a fact on which he was quick to capitalize. It is thus that some cartographic historians have considered this map the'first pirated copy' of Kino's work. However, close examine reveals that, while Kino's explorations clearly form its essence, De Fer's map stands alone as a separate piece. Kino is best known for definitively proving through exploration the peninsular nature of California. Offered for sale is this antique hand colored map of Texas. New Mexico and Indian Territory from a circa 1870 MCNALLY'S SYSTEM OF GEOGRAPHY Book in fair overall condition. The map is marked number 19 and reads in the lower right corner, Drawn and Eng. by Oliver J. Stuart, N.Y. It is page 46 out of the book. It measures about 12" by 10" There is a partial tear at the top of the map as pictured. It has light wear on the edges and light yellowing and foxing. I purchased the geography book at an auction and it was missing the first 8 pages so I do not have an exact date, but Colorado was still a territory and Nebraska was a state, so this should put it in the late 1860's to early 1870's. This is an authentic antique map of New Mexico Territory. New Mexico became the 47th state in 1912. It was engraved by L. L. Poates Co. of New York and is copyright 1907 by Dodd. Mead& Co. It is from an encyclopedia that was published in 1909. It shows small towns as well as larger cities, counties and county seats, railroads, mountain ranges, rivers and streams. It also shows three Indian Reservations-Navajo, Mescalero Apache and Zuni. It is a neat historical map that will be great framed. The overall size of the map is 9 3/4" x 12 3/8" and the image is 8 1/2" x 10 1/2" It is a tipped in map with original center fold as published. It is printed on good quality paper and is in very good condition. There is a fold separation on both the right and left margin-they each go about half way to the image border. Has crease down middle from where it was folded as part of the book. Very small tear at the crease on the right side that would be covered by a mat or frame. Here Ortelius may have drawn upon a 1575 map of the region by French cartographer Jean Duran. But the principal contributor for this map is thought to be Jeronimo de Chaves(1523-1574) who succeeded Sebastian Cabot as Pilot Major and was appointed royal cosmographer at the Casa de Contratacion. Wonderfully decorative with flamboyant decorative elements, the map provides a fascinating snapshot of Spanish new world ... moreconquest in the 16th century. One of the more sought-after of Ortelius maps, this well-preserved example exhibits hand colour work of the very highest order and will make an elegant presentation if matted and framed. The first of two magnificent decorative cartouches features a leering horned demon. Two ferocious creatures of indeterminate species, and four"Aztec" faces: A second cartouche features new world fruits. Exotic birds and more Aztec inspired faces. He was the son of a printer and bookseller and in 1612 married into the cartographically prominent Hondius family. Following his marriage he moved to Amsterdam where he worked as a book publisher. It was not until 1616 that Jansson produced his first maps, most of which were heavily influenced by Blaeu. In the mid 1630s Jansson partnered with his brother-in-law, Henricus Hondius, to produce his important work, the eleven volume Atlas Major. About this time, Jansson's name also begins to appear on Hondius reissues of notable Mercator/Hondius atlases. Jansson's last major work was his issue of the 1646 full edition of Jansson's English Country Maps. Following Jansson's death in 1664 the company was taken over by Jansson's brother-in-law Waesberg.
