This is a color map titled: Michigan. The map measures about 9 by 12 1/8 inches and is on an about 10 1/8 by 13 inch sheet. Which is folded to about 6 7/8 by 10 1/8 inch. A narrow mounting strip is glued to the blank back of the map along the fold line through the center of the map. Printed on the map is"Copyright 1905 by The Americana Company. This is an original color map from 1904-1906. The map has been removed. By cutting the mounting strip, from: The Americana. A Universal Reference Library. 16 Volumes. Vol. X. Mar– New. Vintage 1955 Pictorial Commemorative Map Campus of Michigan State University
Here is a beautiful Pictorial Map of the Campus of Michgan State University, Lansing. Michigan that was published in 1955 to commemorate the 100th Anniversity of the establishment of the university. It is executed in a panarama. Or bird's eye view from a higher than normal"altitude" to show the entire campus on the left half of the print. While it shows landmarks and buildings and vignettes of the campus on the right half and also at the bottom left. It is beautifully drawn by Carl I. Johnson whose printed signature appears on the drawing at the bottom left. The map was published by Design Associates. Lansing, Michigan and printed by R. R. Donnelley& Sons Company. Chicago. The map is in excellent condition- please refer to the Condition Section where I go into considerable detail as to its condition. It has been well taken care of. The map is a nice 30" x 23" It has an inner and outer border. The outer border is clear; the inner border has testimonials. Memorials, sayings, and philosophies germain to Michigan State; there even is a quote by Abraham Lincoln. The illustration appears to be a lithograph and is an original print. It has a mid-century design and is very detailed. But not cluttered. Campus maps of this era, style, and quality were usually only destributed to faculty, allumni, and VIP's to commemorate something big- as the university's Centennial, in this case- and they were probably sold in the bookstores to current students, so a map of this type had limited distribution and printing runs. Each of these maps is in pretty nice shape with good colors. But there are small imperfections like binder holes might be torn or small creases, etc. No writing on any of them. These maps were in a normal letter sheet size binder, so they are all at least 8.5" x 11" but some are bigger and would have been neatly folded to fit in the binder/book. All would look great if professionally matted and framed for your wall! Please see enlarged photos above to make determination of quality. Wow. This map has it all. Besides the fold out map it has 56 pages of detailed city maps. Every city is listed with population and points of interest. It also lists the official register of hotels garages and service stations. Population of Detroit was 1.378,000 and a nightly stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island for $8.00.It also lists state parks, fish and game laws, Milagros tables. The speed limits were business 15, residence 20, and elsewhere, careful and prudent. It also has ads including the back page for Coke. It has some spotting and a small tear on the back cover and some pencil handwriting on a page. The fold out map is in good shape and has no rips and has a few spots on the edges. Perfect glovebox item for a restored 1929 Ford, Chevrolet, Buick, etc. automobile.

The copyright is 1952; the gold sticker at the bottom center indicates a 1962 distribution date; but I acquired it in the early seventies when I began teaching in Saginaw County. Michigan. The map is approximately 22 ¼” X 22 1/8” The bad news: it shows definite wear along the edges. There are tears there. Please see my photos for details. I have a close-up of the worst corner. However. 1890 Iliff's Imperial Atlas of the World Map Minnesota Michigan Wisconsin Iowa
This is for the map you see in the pictures. This is a big map at 11 x 14-1/2 inches from edge to edge. The map is in great condition with no rips or marks in the map part and just slight toning to the page. This is a double or triple sided map and will include the states in the title. Some of the map pages are made together as they have a 2 page map on the inside and a single one on the back of each side of that. You will have to look carefully at the pictures as that is the maps you will get. I have a lot of other maps on from this atlas and will combine shipping. This atlas was already divided into the maps before I bought it so this is how you will get the maps. This is a very hard to find book and not a common atlas. This is from book Iliff's Imperial Atlas of the World printed in 1891. Thanks

I cannot stress enough how beautiful this map is up close compared to the photos that you see. Note that the photos do not do the map justice. This is truly an incredible map to behold! This is your chance to own a map that can be the centerpiece of your collection. Cartographer: Joseph Hutchins Colton(July 5. 1800- July 29, 1893) often publishing as J. H. Colton, was an important American map and atlas publisher active from 1833 to 1893(though the firm continued to published in 1897) Colton's firm arose from humble beginnings when he moved to New York in 1831 and befriended the established engraver Samuel Stiles. Colton recognized an emerging ... moremarket in railroad maps and immigrant guides. Not a cartographer or engraver himself, Colton's initial business practice mostly involved purchasing the copyrights of other cartographers, most notably David H. Burr, and reissuing them with updated engraving and border work. His first maps, produced in 1833, were based on earlier Burr maps and depicted New York State and New York City. Between 1833 and 1855 Colton would proceed to publish a large corpus of guidebooks and railroad maps which proved to be very popular. In the early 1850s Colton brought his two sons, George Woolworth Colton(1827- 1901) and Charles B. Colton(1832- 1916) into the map business. G. W. Colton, trained as a cartographer and engraver, was particularly inspired by the idea of creating a large and detailed world atlas to compete established European firms for the U.S. market. In 1855 G.W. Colton issued volume one the impressive two volume Colton's Atlas of the World. Volume two followed a year later. Possibly because of the expense of purchasing a two volume atlas set, the sales of the Atlas of the World did not meet Colton's expectations and it was thus that, in 1856, they also issued the Atlas as
