The map has no title nor other identification. It is obviously from an atlas. Several tracts are labeled. And all lots are numbered. I estimate the publication date to be either the last few years of the 1880's or the first years of the 1890's. The High School lot is where the"new" Los Angeles High School on Hill Street was constructed between 1887 and 1891. By the early 1990's, the cemetery on Ft. Moore Hill was largely or entirely gone. Negro Alley, near the Plaza, had been renamed, or incorperated into, Los Angeles Street in the 1870's, but may have remained on the map because of public familiarity with that name. This piece contains two very detailed and gorgeous maps. Strongly executed in the Art Deco style which flourished in the 1930's. It is very colorful as you can see. Featuring a salmon color to represent the geography of Southern California and the Los Angeles region. Turquoise for the Pacific. Orange, tan, and shades of black. The smaller map which depicts the Olympic Village amd a small panorama/bird's eye view of downtown LA and the Colusium also contains dark green and shades of blue. Beautiful map cover with a painting if Downtown L.A. and the Civic Center. A great reminder of a different era. Features the Chevron and RPM logos as well as the cover art and in the back is a photo of what a full service station was all about back in the day. The front and back cover show very little signs of handling. The edges are worn but nothing serious. The only major damage it the corner fold split as shown in the photo is about an inch long. Rare old 1st ed report describes& maps gold mines in Los Angeles County Includes big separate map; mines are near Antelope Valley. Saugus, Altadena. Acton, Pacoima, Hughes Lake, Soledad Canyon and more Book and map are in near-fine condition; you won't find them in better shape! Tiny detail of big map from book shows mine locations in Soledad Canyon in 1937. Note almost complete lack of roads. Area is about 12-15 miles northeast of Newhall. Most of these mines are gold mines. Most names of owners are given in the report. I t's hard to believe. But gold mines are hidden in the suburban sprawl of Los Angeles, California. And these are productive gold mines. Not just barren prospect pits. Why drive all the way to the Eastern Sierra to explore when there are mines practically in your back yard? In fact. Los Angeles had such substantial ... moremineral deposits that they rated 41 pages in this book. A first-edition report now harder to find than a snowball in Death Valley. Especially in this condition, which is very good to near fine. First time on ebay This 68-year-old first edition has been totally out of print for many years. In almost six years of buying and selling on ebay. I have never seen a complete one of these first editions— with the map intact— offered for sale, let alone a copy in beautiful condition like this. No exaggeration. It is that rare! The big separate map shows the principal mines and oil fields of Los Angeles. Governor mill. Near Acton, serviced the Governor mine, which was one of the biggest gold producers in Los Angeles County since the 1880s. It measures about two feet by two feet and is also in very good condition.
