Iowa City Glass Running Elk Owl Final Early American Pattern Glass Marmalade Jar. This piece dates from the 1880's. This piece shows a running elk on each side. The cover is original and shows an owl in the finial. This piece measures 7" high. The condition of this piece is good. There are a few small nicks inside the rim of the base and there are several chips on the rim where the cover rests. There also is a small nick on the outside edge of the foot. There is some roughness inside the cover and there is an air bubble in the glass on the cover. This bubble is encapsulated in the glass and has not burst. There are no other chips and no cracks and the piece has not been ground. The glass in the base is just slightly cloudy. I will combine items when possible to save shipping costs. Beautiful and Detailed Original Map from 1904 Union County Iowa(This is an authentic map from 1904-NOT a reproduction) This is a genuine 1904 map removed from The Iowa State Atlas. Published in Davenport, Iowa by the Iowa Publications Co. Maps were prepared and published under the supervision of M. Melchior) Huebinger, C. E. Map is printed on the scale of 1/2" = 1 Mile) The map is dated 1904 of the face(see third scan below) The overall sheet size is about 15.25" x 18.25" The size within the printed"Ears of Corn" border is about 13.75" x 17" Map is too large for my 11" x 17" tabloid scanner; so it was scanned in two passes and then assembled electronically. There are some scanner lines visible in the scan. And where the two sections are joined there is a slight variation in the overall tone. The ... moremap itself has NO BREAK, and is very consistent in regards to color. The third scan below is a somewhat enlarged close-up to show quality and detail. There are two other scans at the bottom of the listing: one shows the Legend as it appears on every map in this series; and the other is of the Atlas Title Page. This is a very detailed map. Showing cities, town and villages; roads, railroads(railroads are identified by name) Electric Railroads if any, Schools, Churches, Cemeteries, Stands of Timber, creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds, coal mines, quarries etc. Even the smallest communities in existence at the time are identified. Communities include: Creston. Kent, Shannon City, Arispe, Shephard, Afton, Talmage, Thayer, Lorimor, Cromwell and Spaulding. Condition: Very Good. Printed on medium weight paper which is blank on the reverse. The color was applied by the stone chromolithographic process. Which had been superseded in most publishing firms by 1904. The fact that the Davenport Publishing Co. was still using it is an indication that this was a small old-fashioned company(and probably not long for this world) The result is beautiful color with excellent registration.
