1921 Atlas of Hartford & West Hartford Sanborn Map Co. HUGE
For your consideration is this incredible Atlas of Hartford& West Hartford. It was produced by the Sanborn Map Co. in 1921. The maps are in excellent condition and show great color. The atlas was extremely well constructed and remains in tact and complete. Aside from some normal wear to the edges and covers. The only defect I can see is that the numbered page tabs have been removed. The maps are printed on a very heavy and resilient paper(perhaps linen) This atlas is huge measuring in at 25.5" x 20" Many of the plates are full double pages, and there are no double sided printed pages, each plate could be separated and there would be no loss. HUGE 4 Piece Engineering Map of Paris France WWII German Army General Staff 1940
This is an awesome find! This four piece map of Paris is dated 1940 and was produced for the German Army. Each of the quadrant maps measure about 41" x 32" 104 cm x 81 cm) I don't think my images above do this lot justice! The maps are incredibly detailed(the print in the margin indicates they were specifically intended for engineers) and have lovely color. The folds are so crisp and strong that I wouldn't be surprised if these maps haven't been unfolded since the war. The paper is very clean with only minimal toning. Also included is the original storage folder. The folder is in decent condition with some handwritten notes on it. I have seen a lot of maps from this period and these are the most impressive I've ever run into. The condition is just superb. When stored they weigh over a pound! With an enormous fictitious"Mer ou Baye de l'Ouest" and fantastic elongated depiction of present day Alaska. New Zealand at bottom left corner is only a partial coastal outline. In VG clean condition. Light minor age dustiness or wear, a nice well preserved map. Large decorative cartouche at bottom right corner. Two sheets joined. 20 1/2" x 31 1/2" Intricate. Two-sheet map of east and north central Asia with a particularly well-detailed Korea, based on Jesuit missionary surveys. Following the presiding geographical ideas of Maerten Gerritsz. Vries, who mistook the southeast coast of Sakhalin for the island of Ezo in his 1643 exploration, the map falsely places two islands in the Japanese Sea, north of Honshu, rather than one. The strait that appears to divide Jedso and Ezo is in fact La Perouse Strait. Which lies between Sakhalin and Hokkaido.
