She remained in the Hawaiian area into 1945; and. In late February, got underway for the Marshall Islands. At Eniwetok by mid-March, she conducted net operations there through the end of World War II. Also from the internet+" Following story is shared by Albert Seguin. Ex crew member of USS SANDALWOOD AN-32: Two days after the war ended in September 1945. We were ordered to Wake Island, which was occupied by the Japanese. Our mission was to get release papers signed by their command so the soldiers could be released to the waiting hospital ship which was anchored off the breachway. As we proceeded through the breachway. Which was about a quarter mile long and 300 feet wide, the garrison of Japanese soldiers were lined up on both sides of the breachway. We were sitting ducks if any of them had been armed and had taken shots at us We approached the boat landing and I was the first one to step on land. So I could tie up the launch. KUMALAE GOLD AWARD 1915 PPIE HAWAII UKULELE
I don't know much about this other than it's very old. There appears to be a slight crack on the front. From the base of the left string to the bottom. There's a nick on the front left edge, pic 11. I don't see any cracks on the neck, sides or bottom. There are some cracks along the back side of the body, along with some paint residue at the bottom. Three of the four tuning pegs move freely, the fourth doesn't move and I didn't want to force it. There's a wire hanging from two of the tuners which was used for hanging on the wall. Vintage 24K Gold Dipped Plated Genuine Maile Leaf from Kauai, Hawaii
This vintage leaf pendant is a 24K gold plated Hawaiian Maile leaf from Kauai. It has its original documentation. It came from Sears- notice the lack of a UPC bar code on the documentation? It probably predates the use of UPCs. Which is about 1974. The bail on the Maile leaf pendant has decorative leaves on it- front and back. The leaf is almost 2" long and 5/8" wide.
