A total of 227 geologic folios were produced by the United States Geological Survey between 1894 and 1945. We will be offering over 100 of them on eBay. Each folio includes both topographic and geologic maps for each quadrangle represented in that folio. And normally a description of the basic and economic geology of the same area. Some folios are not beautiful from the outside, but all are very functional, and the price is right. Beautiful etchings and maps some in color of Mono Valley 126 years ago Author Israel Russell first visited area with the famous Wheeler Survey in the early 1870s; Mount Russell in the Sierras is named for him Map from book greatly reduced in size here shows depth measurements made in Mono Lake during author's visits in 1881 through 1883; book was not published until 1889. T his hefty 1889 FIRST edition is the FIRST detailed report EVER on California's Mono Valley— with the FIRST published official geologic topo maps. Greatly reduced scan of full-page antique map from book shows Parker and Bloody canyons. Lake is Grant Lake. This 126-year-old gorgeous antique report not only describes the geology ... moreand beauty of Mono Lake and environs. It is also filled with wonderful antique etchings of the valley and surrounding Sierra Nevada. These too— without a doubt— are also some of the first pictures of this area EVER published These maps. Etchings and the report are not reprints; this is the REAL first edition. Not some cheesy reprint hacked together in India or China with blurry type and NO maps. This is the first OFFICIAL U.S. study ever published on this area.
