When he was discharged he became a businessman and an auctioneer. He was elected and became a legislator. This poster is framed in a very nice wooden frame and is behind UV blocking glass. It measures about 9 by 10 inches(about 23 by 25 cm. and is in Very Good condition. This map is very detailed showing topographical features(rivers, lakes, creeks, etc. townships, cities and villages, the Tonawanda Indian Reservation, routes of old railroads(both steam and electric) and of course old roads and highways. Improved roads(gravel or macadam) are colored in heavy red while unimproved(dirt) connecting roads are marked with thinner red lines. There are no asphalt or concrete roads- nothing like what we would call a highway today. Scale ... moreis about eight miles to the inch. This is a guaranteed genuine vintage map! Perfect for genealogy or other historical research. This map was printed on a single sheet of stock, and was bound into a 3-ring loose-leaf binder. Rare and unusual U.S. Postal Department Rural Delivery Map for Erie County. New York. 9 x 12" paper sections mounted on linen backing. Pale blue print on a white background. Yellowed with age. Map has 16 panels. And measures 34" x 46" and folds down into a portable 9 x 12" package. Has a code no.HE6456 N7U5 Some staining in the upper right quadrant. Not sure of the exact age of this map- I believe it to be around the turn of the century. Probably 1900-1910. The Postal Dept.as it was known as before the Postal Service, started rural delivery in the late 1800's, and the first rural delivery routes in New York State were established in 1906. The maps folded so they could be easily carried into the field by postal carriers as a handy reference. There is an"Explanation" panel listing all the towns. These are beautiful antique works on paper. Over 100 years old, representing a unique piece of U.S. history. This map is very detailed showing topographical features(rivers, lakes, creeks, etc. townships, cities and villages, the Tonawanda Indian Reservation, routes of old railroads(both steam and electric) and of course old roads and highways. Improved roads(gravel or macadam) are colored in heavy red while unimproved(dirt) connecting roads are marked with thinner red lines. There are no asphalt or concrete roads- nothing like what we would call a highway today. Scale ... moreis about eight miles to the inch. This is a guaranteed genuine vintage map! Traveling the Paper Trails of American History Canal Contractor Who Was Sued For Submitting False Vouchers Jailed As a Pauper(See below for scans) Brief stampless letter written by William L. Perce at Auburn. NY, on October 25, 1829, to New York State Comptroller Silas Wright Jr. at Albany, NY. Letter measures approx. 7 3/4" x 12 3/4" The paper is longer than our scanner bed, so each side has been scanned in two sections to show the complete image. Postal history: Early 24mm brown notched CDS. AUBURN. N.Y. with a manuscript 18 3/4 cents rate mark. Condition: Vertical fold. Small tears at seal repaired with archival tape, age toning, holes in folds, edge tear repaired with archival tape, small hole from removal of seal, contemporary pencilled notation. William L. Perce was committed to the Cayuga County jail in 1828 in a civil case ... morearising from his submission of fraudulent and duplicate vouchers for his work on an Erie Canal repair project. He writes from jail. Asking the New York State Comptroller to send him a copy of a power of attorney: Please send me by Return of Post if convenient a copy of a power of attorney executed by me& constituting John Buck my Agent for the completion of a contract with the Commissioners for draining the Cayuga Marshes&c. William L. Perce(1790- was born in Madison County. NY. In 1827 the Erie Canal Commissioners awarded him two contracts totaling $32,000 to drain the Cayuga Marshes at Jack's Reefs on the Seneca River at Lysander, NY. The goal of the project was to drain the marshes to facilitate a connection with the newly-completed Erie Canal with feeder canals linking it to the Finger Lakes. In April 1828 Perce"left the country" before the project was completed. He had appointed John Buck of Lysander as his agent and Buck completed a small part of the project by 1829. The State of New York accused Perce of using his position as superintendent of the project to fraudulently obtain public money through the use of false and double vouchers. In August 18

1909 Atlas ERIE COUNTY NYS Buffalo Grand Island Holland Land Company Genealogy
NEW CENTURY ATLAS- ERIE COUNTY- NEW YORK STATE 1909 This is a large atlas 18" x23" over 100 years old and weighs about 10 lbs. All the maps are present and clear and in good condition. Some minor chips and/or tears. Erie County was part of the Holland Land Company Purchase. It's proximity to Niagara and the Great Lakes made it of great importance. The Buffalo Area was an important part of the negotiations with the Indians for their reservation at Buffalo Creek and of course The Erie Canal. Photo 4& 5 show the List of Towns present in the Atlas. All the little towns. Cities and villages have their own map. The boards are detached as shown in the photos so it does need some stabilizing. Photo 10 shows a small area which can probably be repaired. At least in regard to the buckling. It looks like it got jammed against something ... moreat some point. There is tape on the seam on this double page of the county but everything is clean and clear. In addition to an advertising section. There are several pages noting the major farms in the area. These atlas' are an excellent genealogy source at the turn of the century. There is Holland Land Office Historical Society Stamp at the front and rear of the Atlas. I am not a dealer. This Atlas is part of a private collection. The elderly owner says it is time to get these books into the hands younger collectors.

Each opened out map measures about 23 1/2" by 29 7/8" This map is ERIE COUNTY NEW YORK, PANELS NUMBER 88 AND 89 and it would hang vertically if framed.The important part of the map within the border looks very good with nice, unfaded colors, The area outside the border has some toning near the edges, and creases near a couple of the corners.
