Known also as bird's-eye views. Perspective maps, and aero views, panoramic maps are non photographic representations of cities portrayed as if viewed from above at an oblique angle. Although not generally drawn to scale, they show street patterns, individual buildings, and major landscape features in perspective. Victorian America's panoramic maps differ dramatically from the Renaissance city perspectives. The post-Civil War town views are more accurate and are drawn from a higher oblique angle. Small towns as well as major urban centers were portrayed. Panoramic mapping of urban centers was unique to North America in this era. Most panoramic maps were published independently. Not as plates in an atlas or in a descriptive geographical book. Preparation and sale of nineteenth-century panoramas were motivated by civic pride and the desire of the city fathers to encourage commercial growth. Many views were prepared for and endorsed by chambers of commerce and other civic organizations and were used as advertisements of a city's commercial and residential potential. The map is in great condition with no rips or marks in the map part and just slight toning to the page. This map was made during Governor Hugh L. Carey term as it has his name on the cover page to the lot of maps that i will be putting on. so that put is in the 1975 to 1982 time frame. Thanks

This scan is enlarged to show representative detail. ERIE COUNTY. NEW YORK Authentic 95-Year-Old Vintage Highway and Rail Map Printed in 1919. This is a beautifully detailed, 95-year-old map of Erie County New York. It measures about 9 by 10 inches(about 23 by 25 cm. and is in Very Good condition. This map is very detailed showing topographical features(rivers, lakes, creeks, etc. townships, cities and villages, the Tonawanda Indian Reservation, routes of old railroads(both steam and electric) and of course old roads and highways. Improved roads(gravel or macadam) are colored in heavy red while unimproved(dirt) connecting roads are marked with thinner red lines. There are no asphalt or concrete roads- nothing like what we would call a highway today. Scale is about eight miles to the inch. This is a guaranteed genuine vintage map! Perfect ... morefor genealogy or other historical research. This map was printed on a single sheet of stock, and was bound into a 3-ring loose-leaf binder. On the reverse is printed a table of towns and villages and their populations down to villages as small as 50 population. Towns with Post Offices are marked. Vintage Erie County Savings Bank Matchbook. RARE and hard to find collectible matchbook. Almost new. Missing only one(1) match. Striking surface used only once. The bank incorporated on September 1. 1854 and, after setting up at a temporary location, moved to Main and Erie Streets where it operated for ten years. In 1867, the bank constructed its first building at Main and Court Streets. In 1889, the move of First Presbyterian Church to Symphony Circle made its Main/Church/Niagara location available, and the Erie County Savings Bank purchased the property. The Bank featured here was constructed from 1890-1893; its $1,000,000 cost was paid from bank profits. The building stood until 1967 when it was demolished as its new headquarters was constructed a stone's throw away at One Main Place(Main Place Mall) A decade after moving into its ... morenew building, the bank changed its name to the Erie Savings Bank(1977) and in 1981 became a federally-chartered savings bank. CIVIL WAR BUFFS: This is a fascinating look at the lasting effects of the Civil War on the thousands and thousands of men who lived with injuries suffered during the war. Every Union veteran alive in 1890 was given the opportunity to explain what injuries(if any) they incurred during their service and any lasting effects. You'll see soldiers with"right leg shot off" or"deaf in one ear" or"sunstroke" or any number of ailments. We tend to forget that the war didn't just"end" in 1865. This could be the powerboat‘Adios’ A champion 1903 and 1904 regatta racing craft built in Syracuse by yachtsman J. H. Leighton and shown here, perhaps, near Alexandria Bay. There is very minor corner bumping. Light staining on the face and a small stain on the back right sided; otherwise, it is in very nice condition. CELT. ERIE COUNTY. PENNSYLVANIA. 19th Century Find. Length: 2 3/4" Width: 1 3/4" Depth: 1 1/4" Weight: 5.9 oz. This is a wonderfully firm and compact celt found along the banks of French Creek. About four miles south of Waterford. Northwestern Pennsylvania. I acquired this excellent celt along with many other stone tools uncovered 130 years previously. The base of this dense. Porphyry stone is rounded, almost globular, which alone, sets this curious artifact apart from other ancient tools. It tapers to a find and still reasonably sharp blade end. The form and structure of this celt indicates it was made for heavy chopping/cutting-the dense. Enlarged based giving firmness for impacting with the cutting edge. That said, this type of celt was used for smaller, though very dense/hard wood pieces-exactly the type of tree found in ... morethis part of Pennsylvania in prehistoric times. An excellently shaped. Fully articulated stone celt with minor abrasion scrapes along the rear area.

It is for the Board of Supervisors and has a List of Members, Committees, Rules of Order, and County Officials. The front and back cover have calendars for 1903 and 1904. The List of Members contains all the Wards in Buffalo and the Towns of the county. It notes 26 Republicans and 24 Democrats. The memoranda section is a ledger containing 9 pages filled out in pencil of expenses- such as tickets to cities like Detroit and Pittsburgh, buggy rides, bus tickets, and street car fares(from boat) state room, horse hire, cigars, cigar cutter, laundry, breakfast, bath, stamps, candy, fishing, bow and arrow, spear, snakes, shoes fixed, eyeglass, butter, bellboy, waiter, shave, tea, cocoa, ball games, lemonade, reward, etc. It also mentions many personal ... morenames and Lockport, New Baltimore, Royal Muskoka Hotel, Star Island, Walpole Island, Columbus, OH, Canton, Ohio, Lake Rosseau, Mannington, West Virginia and more. Vintage Erie County Savings bank withdrawal slip with "Castle" building on them.
The decorative castle-like building was completed in 1893 to serve as the headquarters of the Erie county savings bank. The building was the work of architect George B. Post whom also designed the Buffalo Statler Towers. 2] Built of pink granite from Jonesboro. Maine. The ashlar masonry walls were backed with brick. Although the exterior walls were load-bearing. The building had an interior steel framing system. The triangular shaped building was approximately 147 feet by 157 feet, and rose to nine stories high on Main Street side; ten stories high on the Pearl Street side. 3] The building was constructed on a lot within Shelton Square in which the"Old" First Presbyterian Church stood. Be it the view of a town main street, the local church, school, roadside attraction or the countryside, the post card mirrors the way our parents, grandparents and even we, once lived. Captured in these olden day images are views of people in the dress of the day, often at work, at play, at school or at church, offering us a glimpse back ... morein time to a specific moment. People from the city spent their summers in the country. And others who traveled or went"visiting" all sent postcards back home.
