This map was compiled by the County Engineer David T. Meldrum and published by the Oregon City Chamber of Commerce in 1930. The image area measures 16-1/2" x 23" The map labels two interurban electric railway lines in the norhtwestern part of the county: the Willamette Falls and the Oregon Electric. It also labels dozens of"Market Roads" dash; roads designated for use by farmers hauling goods to market. The scans below show some of the detail on the map: The map also shows township and range lines. 1934 map of Shawnee County, KS - identifies every owner of every lot
Map of Shawnee County Kansas. Courtesy of The Columbian Abstract Co. 1934, definite date) 20 1/4" by 17 1/2" identifies who owns every lot. I have given a bigger image of part of the map for a better view. Good way to know what lot sizes were like then and who owned what. Some tears at folds, generally very good condition. Folded in eighths. Some general notes for all the maps I am listing now. Measurements are approximate from edge to edge of the paper. Images are generally smaller. I believe colored maps to be hand-colored. Not machine colored. I got these maps loose and do not have personal knowledge as to actual original sources. In some cases dates and original sources are clearly stated as part of the map, in most cases dates and sources I give are based on information that was written in pencil on the maps when I got them. ... moreI can not give any more information as I am not a map expert. A very attractive and detailed map of the county by Thomas Bowen. With a decorative cartouche in the bottom right corner and a vignette view of St. Paul's Cathedral in the top left corner. The map is surrounded by panels of descriptive text. Hand colouring. Sheet measures approx 56cm x 46cm with a vertical centrefold as issued. Quite heavy chain-lined paper with watermark. Paper is noticeably tanned with a lighter section along the centrefold. Impression remains sharp and bright. Everything very clear. Some soft creasing and a harder vertical crease running through the text panels on the right of the map. Light brown mounting box the whole ... moreway round, either on or just outside the plate edge. Short split at the bottom of the centrefold, not reaching printed area. Small bits of mounting tape top corners. Verso browned but very clean. The map will be rolled and posted in a tube. The map is uncoloured and includes information about the county with the reverse side containing a road map from Whitchurch to Chester(pages 148 and 147 in the atlas) The printed area of the sheet measures approx 185mm x 115mm with small margins beyond. The condition is good with light toning as normal(see photograph)
