Beautiful and Detailed Original Map from 1904 Sioux County Iowa(This is an authentic map from 1904-NOT a reproduction) This is a genuine 1904 map removed from The Iowa State Atlas. Published in Davenport, Iowa by the Iowa Publications Co. Maps were prepared and published under the supervision of M. Melchior) Huebinger, C. E. Map is printed on the scale of 1/2" = 1 Mile) The map is dated 1904 of the face(see third scan below) The overall sheet size is about 29" x 18.25" The size within the printed"Ears of Corn" border is about 27.25" x 17" Map is too large for my 11" x 17" tabloid scanner; so it was scanned in three passes and then assembled electronically. There are some scanner lines visible in the scan. And where the sections are joined there is a slight variation in the overall tone. The map ... moreitself has NO BREAK, and is very consistent in regards to color. The"ears of corn" border extends all around the map, including the bottom which does not show in the scan. The third scan below is a somewhat enlarged close-up to show quality and detail. There are two other scans at the bottom of the listing: one shows the Legend as it appears on every map in this series; and the other is of the Atlas Title Page. This is a very detailed map. Showing cities, town and villages; roads, railroads(railroads are identified by name) Electric Railroads if any, Schools, Churches, Cemeteries, Stands of Timber, creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds, coal mines, quarries etc. Even the smallest communities in existence at the time are identified. Communities include: Chatsworth. Condition is Excellent within the image, edges have light toning, occasional foxing spots, most maps still have the paper hinge attached on the back, and several old creases at the left corners top and bottom, otherwise no issues. Back in the day we used words like patina, aged and original to describe beautiful things that had some wear. Today we use words like, rugged, shabby chic and re-purposed. The margins may have small edge tears, occasional foxing and these maps also have an old crease across the margin, at the corners, just into the image. These flaws could be damage or patina. This is a large 1911 Wyandotte County. Kansas map. It measures 14 X 20 inches. It is quite detailed, showing some topography, towns, transportation lines, and other landmarks as they existed in 1911. Very detailed showing exact routes of the railroads not found in such detail on the state maps. This map is wax engraved and was issued as part of the Rand McNally Commercial Atlas. To be used by shippers and businesses to get their goods to customers and markets. During this time, many different Railroad Companies existed, so this was no mean feat. The Rand McNally Business Atlas was updated yearly to show all railroad stops, even if no population existed, such as loading areas, storage areas, and terminals. This map is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. It may have few minor handling flaws as to be expected in a map this age and large. Someone ... morehas added the section numbers in pencil around two sides of the map.
