Here is neat medal of the Colorado National Guard. This is a marksmanship badges and dates from the early 20th Century. The Colorado Guard had a unique history in that as well maintining law and order when called up also fought Indian and striking Gold and Coal Miners to include the Western Federation of Miners and the United Mine Workers of America. 1913 Crews-Beggs Trading Company Leadville Colorado Mercantile Department Store This is a very interesting stock certificate issued to Mrs. Hannah Robinson. Cert. 114, for 300 shares, on March25, 1913. This black-edged certificate is not canceled and has a raised seal in the lower left corner. It was signed by W.M. Scott as Vice-President and Henry Schuck as Secretary. It shows some discoloration and dirt on the edges but doesn’t have any perforations or creases other than the expected tri-fold crease. The back of the stock certificate is very elaborate and has been signed by Hannah N. Robinson. The back does show some staining at the top center over the word‘Certificate’ Please see scans for further details and feel free to ask questions. Dimensions: Approx. 10 ¾” x 6 3/4“ Crews-Beggs is a very interesting company. It was listed in the Leadville Business Directory for 1911. With B.E. Townsend as Manager of the department store located at the northeast corner of West 7 th and Harrison Ave. The building was built in 1886 and a few years later the entire lower floor became the dry goods store. Crews-Beggs. Another Business Directory for 1911 from Salida. Colorado lists Crews-Beggs Mercantile Company with W.D. Hatfield as Manager. Two other Business Directories list Crews-Beggs Company in Pueblo. Colorado. The 1910 census lists Crews-Beggs Dry Goods Co. Department store, C.W. Crews general manager and E.H. Day Vice-president. The 1923 directory lists Crews-Beggs Dry Goods Co. with C.W. Crews President and W.D. Young Vice-president located at the corner of 4 th and Main St. It appears that these three branches of the same company existed in three different cities in Colorado(Leadville. Salida, and Pueblo) It also appears that the Pueblo location was the largest and may have been the first. Since it was opened in 1888.
