Vintage Map of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, 1957, for Phillips 66 Stations
This is a vintage road map of Arkansas. Louisiana and Mississippi by the H.M. Gousha Company for Phillips 66 Stations published in 1957. One side shows the three states with federal and state highways, major roads and no interstates. There is also a list of cities and towns with populations. The reverse has insets of New Orleans, Shreveport, Jackson, Little Rock, Memphis and Fort Smith. The traffic rules for the states are listed as well. There is also an US map with all the federal highways shown. The map measures 18 x 26.5 inches. This is a 1931 map of Arkansas. It is from a scarce Cram's Atlas. The map measures 11.25 X 15 inches. It is in near mint condition showing only minor handling. Buyer will get a printed out page size copy of the index page. This is superior to any"Certificate of Authenticity" which are normally printed out on the sellers own computer. We send this to prove map was extracted from this extremely rare atlas and to help with insurance appraisals as the map will surely increase in value. There are a few reasons this map is rare. And more difficult to obtain than a Cram's map of the late 1800's. In 1931 the United States and the World was in a catastrophic depression. Thus Cram's did not print as many, and very few people had the money to buy this atlas. This map has a 1913 copyright by The Kenyon Company of Des Moines and folds out to about 21.5” x 20” with a large color map of Arkansas printed on one side and an index of Arkansas towns and other information printed on the verso. This map is contained within the original printed covers. The front cover panel reads: Map of ARKANSAS– No Rocks. Hills Nor Swamps– 30 Acres in The Coming Country– Arkansas is Coming to the Front– Wm. C. Uphoff& Co. Fourth Floor Times Building, St. Louis, Missouri The back cover panel is printed with an additional ... morestatement about the prospects of land investing in Arkansas which is described as a“diamond in the rough” The Wm. C Uphoff& Co. name is overprinted on the map along with the company’s address and the addresses of the branch offices in Little Rock and Chicago. There is also a large circle overprinted on the center of the map around the town of Pine Bluff which I presume indicates the area where the company was offering land for sale. I found some information online indicating William C. Uphoff was later indicted for fraudulent land deals in New Mexico. This map is an original antique published more than 100 years ago. This map is fully complete and well intact with only a small bit of separation on the fold lines in a couple spots. The covers show some wear but overall condition is good. Email any questions.
