Showing the principal railroad lines, cities, towns and counties, etc. It was published in a reference atlas by George F. Cram. The map measures 9 1/4" x 13, with ample margins for framing. It is in very good condition, faint water stain in lower right margin which does not cross into the printed area. Small closed tear in the left margin which has been repaired with archival tissue. A fine double-page antique map originally published in Mitchell's School and Family Geography and dated 1858(dated bottom left) It would appear however that this was printed later as one of the Arkansas counties shown was not established until 1869. The map is entitled"Southern States" and covers Louisiana. Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Original hand wash coloring. Burr, and reissuing them with updated engraving and border work. His first maps, produced in 1833, were based on earlier Burr maps and depicted New York State and New York City. Between 1833 and 1855 Colton would proceed to publish a large corpus of guidebooks and railroad maps which proved to be very popular. In the early 1850s Colton brought his two sons, George Woolworth Colton(1827- 1901) and Charles B. Colton(1832- 1916) into the map business. G. W. Scanned pictures tend to not be color true(reds) and shiny things can appear dark or black instead of bright and flashy especially those items with curved surfaces. METALWARE: Pewter. Please be aware that these Road Maps are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying may be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders and fold lines of the maps may also have tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in ... moretime. This auction is for a vintage map of the state of Oklahoma. It has Glorious Eureka Springs Arkansas on the cover. It is in poor condition and is very fragile. There are some tears in the folds of the paper. It needs taped. But I will leave that for the buyer to do so it is done right. There is also a section missing at the top of the map.
