Antique Ice Pick San Francisco Bay Cities Ice & Cold Storage
This is a very rare Ice Pick from Bay Cities Ice& Cold Storage CO. 715 Brannan Street Phone Hemlock 4222 from 1946. My great grandmother had this for years and now I have it amongst a few other antique Icepick. it measures a little bit over 8" in length. There is no rust and the words are still very legible. Some letters are starting to rub off but for the most part it is all still there.

Antique Santo or Bulto San Francisco(St. Francis) Hand Carved Antique Santo or Bulto San Francisco(Saint Francis) Circa 1800s- early 1900s. Possibly older. Santos are Spanish colonial folk art saints. Bultos are Santos"in the round" I.e. carved from three dimensional cottonwood roots, pine wood, etc. Although today they are commonly defined as being from New Mexico, where they are still made, the art form originated in Spain and hence spread to all of their past colonies(where these older pieces are no longer as common) Provenance: This San Francisco is most probably from Guatemala; the elderly gentleman collector I purchased him from says that is where he purchased this piece a couple decades ago. He is executed in the traditional manner: hand carved wood with pegged together arms/appendages. Pegged onto a stand; covered in gesso, ... morehand painted, and varnished(probably with pine sap) San Francisco appears to have been pegged at the waist also(quite common) The waist joint is barely visible and still very tight. Condition: He shows the very typical wear and tear of age: rubbing off and/or chipping of the paint and gesso. Some crazing/crackling, minor cracking at some peg joints, etc. There does appear to be some white colored glue between the pegged hands and arms. Whether it is original or not I do not know, but it appears to be a more recent repair. He appears far older or much more used/touched or weathered than my San Pedro listing from the same collection, as much of his paint and gesso are worn down to the dark wood underneath. Size: The full statue measures 11 ½ in high by 4 in wide. San Francisco's body measures 9 ½ in. high(from robe bottom to top of head) by 3 in wide(from hand to hand) The base measures 3 7/8 in. long by 3 in wide by 2 in. tall. Antique San Francisco"BAKER&HAMILTON"Butter Churn RCW Richmond VA. Sold SF Store
You collectors have seen these White Cedar Butter Churns in your antiquing travels or on ebay. As you can see. This is different. This 100 year old turn took the long trip, probably by sea, to get to the historic Baker&Hamilton Hardware store in San Francisco. The Baker&Hamilton building still stands in San Francisco as a monument to the historical significance this company had on the city's growth during and following the Gold Rush. The churn ended in weaverville, a town far north of San Francisco. It only makes sense that the lid and one of the legs were repaied with California Redwood. It is a beautiful piece of functioning machinery that was imported from Richmond,Virginia and made by Richond Cedar Works. Antique Bowie Knife, California Gold Rush, San Francisco
Very nice California Gold Rush Bowie knife with a distinctly San Francisco made handle. The. Circa 1850, etched blade was made by Edward Barnes of Sheffield, but the handle was made in San Francisco in late 1848 to early 1850's. Although some viewing this auction may question that assumption, it is easily ascertained by the three or four known examples of similar Sheffield knives of that era. The one most referred to is the Tillotson Bowie knife illustrated in the 1996 Butterfield auction catalog featuring the Bowie knife collection of Bill Williamson on pg. 4 lot#3501. I pictured it in the above gallery. That knife is regarded as the first recognized example and an important knife predating the Michael Price and Will& Finck knives of San Francisco fame. It was Bill Williamson who first recognized these remanufactured knives in the ... more1970's. To better understand and appreciate this knife. It is important that I use the description written by the previous owner, who focuses on the Tillotson Bowie as the example for the back round and history of this special California Bowie knife. Up for sale is a brass San Francisco Fire House stamped brass plate. I do not know the history of this plate but it appears to be very old. It looks like a door push plate that would be nailed to a swinging door. It has 4 small pin nail holes in each corner where it would have been attached. It has great patina but could be easily cleaned up if you wanted to. It has a picture of an old horse driven steam engine and other firefighting items on it. There is a lot of detail on this and would make a great wall hanger or door plate.
