It appears to be a very early printing from around the 1860's. The other two volumes I am not exactly sure of but are also early. Handed down. They are said to have been collected in Japan in the 19th century. This fits with the rest of the material from the estate which is 19th and early 20th century. All are in very good used condition. The yellow volume has generally wear to covers and soiled pages. The next(middle) volume has worn covers which are silk and soiled pages, also the last two leaves have very small worm hole at the top right corner. Antique 100 Yr Old French Backgammon Board inside faux books!!!
15.5 inches long are the the two books x 10 inches wide across and almost 5 inches high closed. When it is open it is the size of a normal board and very deep. Wood and leather. All the pieces are wood. They are all present.so are the cups and the only issue is some leather chipping off the books. See photo. Over 1oo years old. This auction is for a pair of antique Japanese woodblock printed books which I believe deal in some way with Buddhism. I am not sure of the age. But I would guess they are Meiji Period or possibly Edo. They measure about 6" x 8 5/8" have about 70 pages each and have various illustrations, with the majority of the pages being text. There are four softcover books inside a hard slipcase. The four books are titled"How to Make Dresses the Modern Singer Way" How to Make Draperies, Slip Covers, Cushions and other Home Furnishings" How to Make Children's Clothes" and"Short Cuts to Home Sewing" There is a name and number written in pencil at the top of all four books, otherwise they are in excellent condition. The slipcase has a little wear at the edges but overall ... moreis in very good condition too. Please see my photos and feel free to ask questions before bidding. Most of my items come from Estate sales and many have imperfections. I try to describe any flaws in my listing and take lots of photos so that you can see the condition of the item. However. Bound in blue cloth embossed with airplane design, with gilt lettering on spine. Issued with no dust jacket. A publisher-bound set of what was originally a Part-Work. Providing a comprehensive pictorial account of contemporary and historical military and civil aviation, illustrated throughout with an extensive range of B&W and Sepia photographs. Includes much on airships, and on the record-breaking flights of the 1920s& 1930s. London: Waverley Book Company. Both Volumes are in good condition. No bends or creases on inside pages. Some yellowing due to age. The outside covers have minimal rubbing. The bottom right edge of the front cover of Volume II has a small dent ... moreand the bottom corner of the back cover also has a larger dent. This dent also affect the bottom right corner of the inside pages. There is also 3 small dents on the right edge of volume I. Also one small dent on top edge and bottom edge of front cover of volume I. Minimal rubbing to edges. Rubbing can mostly be seen near the spines. The spines are in good condition. Some creases and rubbing. All pages are intact and clean. Binding is tight. The back cover of Vol.II has a small(little over 1/4 in. black mark. Not sure if from pen? The back cover of Vol.II has some type of discoloration. Looks as if the coloring of another book rubbed off on it. I have provided as detailed photos as possible.
