RARE ANTIQUE ART DECO NUDE MALE HOLDING BOOKS BOOKENDS JB HIRSCH GAY INTEREST
According to the Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends. This set is known as"Servant of Knowledge" circa 1930, attributed to JB Hirsch, gray metal figure on polished stone, rarity 5. A bronzed nude male figure is kneeling on black stone base. He arms are behind him, palms up for the placement of the book. Condition issues include small chips to the base and the books are not attached to the figure. The books do rest nicely in his open hands and they display beautifully. Every effort has been made to describe the item accurately. But please remember that I am not an expert, and items are described to the best of my ability. Antique Surveyors Tool Pack with Books, Chequamegon National Park
Up for auction today is this vintage surveyors tool pouch with the books and map of the Chequamegon National Forest. I bought this at the estate sale of Arthur a. Pond originally of Park Falls. Wis. I believe he was a surveyor for The Parks Service or Agriculture Service in the Chiquamegon Forest. This pack measures 12 1/2" in width by about 11 1/2" in height. It has riveted leather straps and steel buckles. It is made of extremely thick canvas which was used by a lot of government entities. I believe this pack is the kind that was slapped on the back of a horse or mule and off to the back country we go. It may have been handed down to Arthur Pond from a relative, as I believe it predates him. If you get on Google advance search and punch in Arthur A. Pond, you will find a picture from the Wisconsin Historical Society showing his ... morerelatives digging bison bones in Interstate Park, Wis. with notations stating the photo image remains the property of Arthur A. Pond till his passing. This bag may have come from one of them. But that is speculation. I know it is old and shows the hard life of a well traveled bag. There is slight fraying of the canvas at the break over point on the flap. There is also a small wear spot on the left lower corner front. The long leather strap that is riveted to the steel rings on the back has a small tear at the rivets. The other end of that strap is tied to the opposite ring probably so it can be adjusted. This would make a great prop for a display of early Forestry Service memorabilia. The books that come with this is from the U.S Dept of Agriculture Forest Service, National Agriculture Library, and his personal note book has a vintage Smokey the Bear sticker with his name and Chequamegon written on it. 1909 Antique Shirmer's Household Music Books Gems Of Sacred Song Eduardo Marzo
Up for bid here is a 1909 Antique Music Book or songbook titled"Gems Of Sacred Song" and it appears to be part of a series called"Schirmer's Household Books. This one also says the name Eduardo Marzo and High Voice on the cover. This was evidently published in New York by G. Schirmer and it must have also been published in Boston by the Boston Music Co. This particular publication was once sold by Sherman. Clay& Co. in Portland, Oregon. Their stamp is on the bottom right corner of the cover. As for condition, the main problem is that the front and back covers are one piece that wraps around the book and this piece is almost unglued from the spine area. A little glue should fix it. Other than that, there are some tears on the cover and it does look over 100 years old as it should. Inside, the pages of the sheet music ... morelook good. There are 23 songs in this book. It is very hard to read the cover copyright date but I think that it says 1908 and not 1900. It's just the font that was used that makes it hard. However, it is very clear on the title page that this has a 1909 copyright date and I certainly assume that this is when this book was published. There are 96 pages in this publication so it is a book rather than a booklet or a few sheets of sheet music. It measures 9-1/4 inches by 12 inches. This is a nice old period piece! Happy Bidding!

ARRANGED IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER WITH INTRODUCTION, NOTES AND A GLOSSARY. It is copyright 1896 by the author and published by D. C. HEATH& CO. BOSTON, U.S.A. in 1898. The book has 370 pages. In the front before the poetry pages start at 1 there are 38 other pages. They are the Editors Preface, the Introduction, Dedication and Contents pages. We have photoed these Contents pages, the Title page with the picture Frontispiece, the hardback cover and several other pages to give interested parties some idea of the content and conditions contained within the book. In the back there is a 2 page Chronological. Pages 233 thru 355 is titled NOTES. Pages 357 thru 366 ... moreis the GLOSSARY. Page 367 and 368 is INDEX TO FIRST LINES. The last 2 pages are titled REFERENCES. The book is in a strong good condition. None of the inner pages are loose, missing, bent or scribbled on. Towards the back we found several pages with little small age spots. On the Frontispiece there is a ¼” tear on the top border. The book overall is in good condition for being 120 plus years old. The spine and binding are tight. The binding shows a little bit of wear on the top and bottom. The corners are a little bumped and also show a little wear. The next book is smaller and is titled CARLYLE'S ESSAY ON BURNS POEMS FROM BURNS WITH THE COTTER'S SATURDAY NIGHT AND OTHER PEMS FROM BURNS. The book has a copyright date of 1900 by THE MACMILLAN COMPANY and was also published by them in New York in 1922. The book has 186 pages.
