Merchants were reluctant to charge it and customers were reluctant to pay it. There was a real possibilty that a merchant would do his customer a favor by letting him make his purchase tax-free. If the merchant never reported the sale of the state. The state would never know that it should have gotten its 3% That where the stamps came in. Hello. This is a 1962 Kenworthy Educational Service pull down chart with original shipping tube. The chart is in good condition, but a bit fragile. It has a few tears and rips as per pictures. I didn't unroll the top all the way in photos because it was sticking a bit, but it will go farther. Has metal and wooden rollers which are original. Yellow tape at bottom applied years ago. A very handsome three tier Regency mahogany wall book shelf with turned supports and original mounts for hanging. Just needs a good polish- has nice patina. Reeded edges are quite nice and a sign of high quality- molding is missing on the two ends of the middle shelf- not very noticeable and does not detract. The first one is the 8th Edition from 1990 and the second one is the 22nd edition from 2004. Each one features a nice variety of collectible antiques and information on fakes and reproductions. It also provides the latest prices listings that makes these books the most reliable source for dealers and collectors. The last book is the Complete Cookie Jar Book by Mike Schnieder. This book is hard cover. It is from 1991 and it has over 298 pages of listings for collectible cookie jars. None of the books have any tears or rips that I can see; however, I did not flip every single page of each book. Overall, they are in good used condition.
