This is map dated 1926 of the Chicago Surface Lines street car system. The map measures about 11.25" x 21.5" Map shows street car routes. Points of interest and parks. Map is in good to very good condition with minor yellowing, a few tiny tears, and overall wear from age. On back, one area of adhesive where it appears this was in a guide book. It is highly detailed, even showing individual houses, schools, works, churches and covers an area of about one and a half square miles Here we give you two highly detailed maps on one sheet. To show how the area developed across the years. The main map is the 1926 version and covers an area from Moss Road and Cadishead Moss eastward to Liverpool Road. Most development is at the eastern part of the map, features including Jenny Green, the Co-op Soap and Candle Works, Fairhills Road, Irlam Hall, and the northern part of Lower Irlam. West of this development is Cadishead Moss and here a surprising feature is the tramway network running across it for the carriage and ... moredisposal of manure and other refuse. 1926 Pictorial Historical Map Boston Edwin Olsen & Blake Clarke Scarce But ROUGH
Here is a very pretty and early Pictorial Map of Boston titled" The Colour of An Old City" This Historical-Pictorial large size poster map(almost 38" x 29" is dated either 1926 or 1928. The last number is smeared, but I believe it reads 1926. This is a fairly scarce map. Conceived and illustrated by Edwin Olsen and Blake Clark. Who are credited in the map's Key as having" Designed. Drawn(sic) And Colored" this map. UNFORTUNATELY, the map is not in good condition. I am listing it because it is scarce and still a very attractive map; perhaps it can be mounted on archival paper or light weight canvas and then perhaps framed. The worst thing about it is that it is missing paper at three corners. However. The colors are very vibrant with the 3 Primary Colors dominating the print. The map demonstrates the talent ... moreof Olsen& Clark. This map pre-dates the Golden Age of the Pictorial Map genre(1930's) by a few years. There are many structural issues with this map. And I try to explain them in the Description Section. As far as its content. The map is repleat with illustrations. Caricatures. And epitaphs about the places and history of Old Boston. The map discusses the present day Boston(mid-1920's) with the historical Boston. Both explicitly and implicitly. The drawings of ships, buildings, coats of arms, and historical sites are not only pure Boston, they are very well executed and blend into the map in a very clever way. Unlike most pictorial maps that have random and scattered drawings on the map proper- if you will, the"geographical" or"cartographical" parts of the map, the illustrators have chosen to have depicted just about ALL of the building and houses in Old Downtown Boston. Encouraging members to attend the convention the yellow roads on the map are printed with"all roads lead to Tulsa" The U.S. States each have cartoons, some with captions. Most also have the name of a member of the board: Charlie Edwards, New York; S Y Barkley, Arizona; Paul Meredith, Florida; Poteet, West Virginia, to name a few. An inset plan show the grid layout of the streets of Tulsa. Condition/ Defects: The map is printed on thick but rather inferior quality paper which has become brittle at the folds and has split into three pieces along the central folds. With the top half in one piece and the lower half in two pieces. There are further tears at the folds. The margins have faded and have some foxing spots, but the image remains nice and bright. The back is also faded and has water staining and foxing, but this is not obvious on the front. The corners have pin holes and are partially broken away. Please supersize the photos to see better.
