Pre-Inca Pottery bowl from Tiwanaku AD 300 to AD 1000 I am selling a portion of my family collection that has been in our family for well over 45 years. Due to downsizing and not having the storage room any longer I would rather others enjoy these unique pieces of old pottery. They have been stored in glass display cases for most of their time while in my care. They all come from a non smoking environment and great care will be taken in their packing. All the items were aquired from various sources and were verified by a local museum curator at the time. Beautiful Precolumbian Ritual Bowl, Tiwanacu Civilization 300 - 1000 A.D
This powerfully evocative. Painted ceramic bowl, pre-Columbian, is a find from a recent auction in Paris, France. Centuries Old Original Antique Conquistadore Type Stirrups from South America
Back in the 1980's. In Ft. Lauderdale, I owned a Jaguar shop, and had many customers from South America, who visited me, and were grateful for my rare parts. One, knowing my love for antiques, gave me these as present. I am now concentrating on family heirlooms, and New England antiques; so decided to sell them to someone who appreciates their heritage. Unfortunately, I do not recall if that customer was from Brazil, or Columbia, so do not know if these are Spanish or Portuguese. He told me they were stirrups used by the conquistadores. They both have a strong shaft, riveted across the top, that would attach to a strap. The brass-like alloy, First photos is larger. It is about 8.5 inches back bottom to toe, 4.5 inches top to toe, 3.5 inch width. The copper one(second photos) is smaller; as if used by a woman or child, or someone with ... moresmaller feet. Bottom to toe about 8 inches,top to toe about 4.5 inches, width about 3 inches. Unlike American Stirrups, these are designed so a pointed boot, or perhaps bare feet could fit in them. They have dents, but actually could be used; or are ideal patterns to make a reproduction. I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me date, and better identify them. RH1 This is a unique pottery face. I believe it is considered terracotta and is one of several I have. It measures approx. 2 1/4" x 1 3/8" larger than most of the other ones and in good enough condition to sell separately. I can't tell if these were broke off of statues or made this way? I have seen so many of them in my research it is hard to say. I'll let you decide. It still has traces of red paint in the headband area and the facial features look pretty good. It is 100's of years old and guaranteed not a reproduction. I am not sure if it was a from a statue at one time but is in good condition. It is part of a small collection I bought approx. 5 years ago and even then was packed away for approx. 50 years. The story of these 3 artifacts began off of the coast of Peru near the town of Chimbote sometime between 1000 A.D. and 1500 A.D. They are believed to have belonged to a weaver from the Chimu or Chancay Civilization. As they have strong similarities to other textiles from these people. Being a people of the sea. Chimu designs often depict fish, pelicans, and sea otters. This loom textile depicts pelicans, in a tile design often used. The Chimu Civilization was the largest civilization to thrive in Peru. Just before the Inca came to power around 1500 A.D. Just as today. Life near Chimbote, in the great City of Chan Chan in the Chimu period, revolved around the sea and trade goods. Fine textiles were prized as status symbols of wealth and power. And traded for goods found only in the interior regions of Peru. Women who excelled at the art of ... moreweaving lived in better housing within the City of Chan Chan. And were provided with the best food and care. They made tunics. Loin cloths, and carry bags for the politicians and elite, and for trade to bring in the best goods for the elite. Other women weavers lived outside of the City. And made clothing and bags for the general population. These 3 artifacts were uncovered deep in the ground near Chimbote in the early 1960's. This ancient backstrap loom still has its unfinished textile mounted on the loom. The smallest textile artifact is believed to be the remnants of a shoulder strap to a purse. The larger is part of a shawl. The tight weave and detail of these textiles is fascinating. And they are in wonderful condition for being centuries old. The blue and red colors of the pelicans on the loom are still so bright after so many centuries. You can see the very spot. Where this ancient woman stopped her weaving. It was in its buuble wrap until recently since I was too scared to open it since it was dropped in a move. the restaurer has done a marvelous job as you can see in the photos. The Colima cultures traditionally made offerings of fauna-shaped vessels to accompany the deceased in shaft tombs. The composition of this handcrafted indigenous swallow is remarkably symmetrical. The bird alights to the sky in a gallant swoop; note the cohesive motion implied by its upward beak and wings. Its impeccably burnished surface is painstakingly decorated with lively feather markings. Here is a rare and unusual hollow ceramic figural whistle in the form of a garbed standing figure holding a large rasp or percussion instrument in the crook of his right arm. A striker in his left hand. Most significantly, he wears a duck-bill buccal(mouth) mask. Pre-Columbian representations of humans wearing duck-bill masks are quite rare but not entirely unknown. The best-known example is the“Tuxtla Statuette” now in the Smithsonian Institute. Another“human/duck” combination exists on alter 7 at La Venta. And a third is found on monument 5 at Cerro de Las Mesas. This is a Rare. Not seen one of these gun cases anywhere, leather, and material Brauer Brothers gun case. It is a very old and unique peace. From the stamp on it it was made sometime in 1918. I looked in the internet I could not find such a peace. It can be one of the Brauer first gun case that was made. The condition is as seen on the picture. It does look very old. IT IS 14"X 14" AND THE LION'S FACE PROJECTS OUT 3" THE LIONS FACE IS 7" WIDE AND 8" TALL. THE PANEL AT LEAST IS WOODEN. THE LION ITSELF I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE MATERIAL IS. IT IS NOT PLASTER I DON'T THINK BECAUSE THE PANEL; ONLY WEIGHS 5LBS. MAYBE GILDED GESO. I DID NOT REMOVE ANY OF THE COATING TO SEE SO THE PIECE WOULD NOT BE COMPROMISED.LOOK AT PIC'S.
