The Crimean, now part of present-day Ukraine, was home of the Tartars(and before them ancient Greek settlements during the first millennium B.C. across the Black Sea from what was at the time this ring was produced, the Ottoman Empire, modern day Turkey. The ring band bears a very elaborate raised pattern wrapping all of the way around to the back of the band. The pattern is composed of three raised panels; the center most being plain raised land, the two outer flanking panels being of a twisted rope design. Two circumferential incisions separate the raised panels. The twisted rope embellishment at the outside perimeter of both sides of the band shows some overall wear. Nonetheless the pattern remains entirely distinct. Most of it in fairly sharp relief. However you might notice one area of very heavy wear toward the very back of the band, on one side in particular. It seems likely that this wear pattern would be the consequence of the original owner working with some sort of hand tool which would have rubbed against the ring when utilized by the owner. Very Nice Solid Medieval Ring With Star On Bezel; very unique!!
Up for your consideration is a very nice Medieval ring that depicts a star on the bezel. It measures 17mm in diameter and has a slightly raised bezel. This ring is unique. In that although the patina is a very nice dark green, there is an area on the bottom, that when cursory cleaning from excavation was performed the small amount of patina that was there came off, revealing the gold/orange pitted bronze that looked as it did somewhat when it was made. Usually when that happens. It's a pretty good indication that the ring was not worn much or it was lost by the owner not long after he or she got it. As for the rest of the ring. The patina is firmly in place and does not come off. If you should desire to do so and restore it like some do, this would be a little easier than the majority of ancient artifacts and rings that most metal detectorists ... morefind. Ancient Medieval Bronze Pentagram Ring; very rare and unique!
Up for bids here is a very unique Pentagram ring from the early medieval period that is not like most of the ones out there that I have seen in the past. This one has small dots in and around the pentagram and on the sides. The ring measures 21mm in diameter. This could have some connections to the Knight's Templar but I cannot confirm this and this is only speculation at this point. But the possibilities are there considering the period and the style of this particular ring. And the side markings; which make this one rare, as they appear to be of the same type found on some Templar rings and other jewelry. Pentagrams have a very long history and is one of the oldest symbols in the ancient world. One like this one is rather rare because of the markings on the sides. This was a rather primitive technique as opposed to rings which were cast in one piece, bands and bezel unified and not created separately- much like the style of a contemporary ring. The bezel either mimics a flower(something looking like a sunflower) or is supposed to suggest a large central gemstone flanked by a circumferential perimeter of accent stones(the inspiration still a flower) The bands as you can see are sculpted with a raised beaded rope which embellishes the entire bezel. All of the metal work exhibits very fine workmanship, and is entirely intact- though it is obvious that the ring was worn in life. As mentioned the ring does show some moderate overall wear. But of course you must keep in mind that the ring was produced by an artisan and sold to a patron or consumer with the idea that the ring would be enjoyed and worn by the purchased. And without any regard to twenty-first century posterity, that precisely what happened! The ring is of very simple, almost contemporary design, though there remains the remnants of an intricate engraved design on the bands– very characteristic of Byzantine jewelry. Though the ring is entirely intact, it does show the signs of moderately heavy wear. There were likely intricate patterns all the way around the outside surfaces of the band– as is customary for Eastern European rings such as this. If you look closely at where the bands meet the bezel, you can see some faint traces of this intricate metal work, and even faint remnants of it all the way back to the sides of the bands. However the metalwork has been worn almost smooth from wear, and this now the bands appear to casual glance to be smooth– almost modern in appearance. Despite the wear. It is not excess wear, as given the substantial construction of the ring and the thick, heavy bands; the integrity of the ring remains unimpaired. Clearly this ring was amongst someone’s favorite possessions, and they wore it with great pleasure and regularity– but it could still bring a new owner many decades

The ring consisting of a two- layer hoop ending in wider shoulders decorated with gold applications and small gold beads. Made from high carat real gold. The rectangular bezel framed with fine silver work and gold application on top and bottom depicting the symbol of the Order. An upright bear. Around is the Latin inscription with the motto of the order"Dolce nella memoria" similar to"comfortably in the memory" incised.
