$14.02 Shipping Location: STAINES-UPON-THAMES, United Kingdom About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the ... moreculture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the silk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About This Ring This incredibly eye-catching ancient Roman bronze ring is very solid with a thick. Rounded band. Its bezel is of a large almond shape and is defined at both ends. Upon the surface of this bezel are four very deep punch dot motifs. The superstition of the evil-eye refers to holding. That a glance can cause injury or death to those on whom it falls. The belief was found in ancient Greece and Rome as well as in folk cultures around the world, and it has persisted into modern times. Children and animals are believed to be particularly vulnerable. The evil eye is often thought to stem from envy and malice toward prosperity and beauty, and thus in many cultures unguarded praise of one's possessions or children is thought to invite misfortune. A classic and cardinal form of protection of an ancient Roman citizen. This ring holds such rich history and legend and is indeed a personalized and wearable artefact. The marquise-shaped bezel and the deeply incised lines perfectly convey the pattern of a leaf, and the simple yet sophisticated interpretation is of timeless elegance and beauty. You can also see that the bands are accented with sculpted“pinches” where the bands meet the bezel, a nice little flourish uncommon for the rings of the era. The ring is a wonderful. Well-preserved piece of ancient Roman jewelry. It has a beautiful and rich tone, bright, almost the hue of ancient gold, very characteristic of ancient bronze, very handsome. The ring is of one-piece construction, much like a contemporary ring. Ancient AD900Sz8 Medieval Roman Byzantine Macedonia Albania Bulgaria Flower Ring
Size 8 Genuine Ancient(Roman) Byzantine(Macedonian) Bronze Ring with Floral Pattern Bezel with Sculpted Bands 9th-11th Century A.D. CLASSIFICATION: Ancient Byzantine(Eastern Roman Empire) Bronze Ring. ATTRIBUTION: Eastern Roman Empire(Macedonia) 9th-11th Century A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Fits ring size 8(U.S. Diameter: 20 1/2mm(outer diameter) 18mm(inner diameter) Bezel: 18mm(diameter) Fixed 3 1/2mm Width Band. Weight: 4.08 grams. CONDITION: Excellent! Completely intact. Very light wear consistent with slight use, and little porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: A very well preserved bronze ring circa ninth to eleventh century A.D. from Byzantine(Roman) Macedonia. As you can see. The ring is very elegant in design. The ring is constructed by the very simply method of joining the ... morebands by brazing both ends to a bezel. This was a rather primitive technique as opposed to rings which were cast in one piece, bands and bezel unified and not created separately- much like the style of a contemporary ring. The bezel either mimics a flower(something looking like a sunflower) or is supposed to suggest a large central gemstone flanked by a circumferential perimeter of accent stones(the inspiration still a flower) The bands as you can see are sculpted with a raised beaded rope which embellishes the entire bezel. All of the metal work exhibits very fine workmanship, and is entirely intact- though it is obvious that the ring was worn in life. As mentioned the ring does show some moderate overall wear. But of course you must keep in mind that the ring was produced by an artisan and sold to a patron or consumer with the idea that the ring would be enjoyed and worn by the purchased. And without any regard to twenty-first century posterity, that precisely what happened! The original medieval owner of this ring wore it, enjoyed it, and probably never could have in his most delusional moment ever dreamed that fifty generations later the ring wo

Ancient Roman “Evil Eye” Bronze Ring with Punch-Dot Motifs 100-200 AD
About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the ... moresilk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About the Roman Rings Romans liked to wear big rings which drew attention and revealed the status of the wearer. A gold ring often contained a huge gemstone or Roman glass which was generally worn by the Senators and the bureaucrats. The common people referred as the Plebeians were allowed to wear only rings made of iron. However. Some Plebeians were awarded the right to wear the golden rings for their bravery or special service to the state. But gradually such stringent rules were relaxed during the reign of Justinian I. Women of ancient Rome were more inclined to wear multiple rings of varied materials and designs on their hands without the constraints of social classes. About This Ring This very solid piece of treasure comes in the form of an evil eye ring. Its band is very thick with a protrusive mold at the middle of its base and so is its eye-shaped bezel. Which adorns four of the deepest punch dot motifs representing an evil eye each. The contrast of the light earthen enc

Ancient Roman Celtic Abstract Engraved Bronze Ring Sz9
Genuine Ancient Celtic-Roman Bronze Ring with Engraved Geometric Bezel First Century A.D. Size 9 heavy and well-constructed ancient Celtic-Roman bronze ring with deeply engraved and excellently preserved abstract geometric bezel design. Is in excellent condition and is completely intact. Evidences moderately light wear consistent with infrequent(ancient) usage. Evidences moderately light oxidation(fine pitting or corrosion frequently caused by contact with caustic soil while buried) Was professionally restored and conserved. Eastern Roman Empire(Thracia) First Century A.D. Fits ring size 8 3/4- 9(U.S. Bezel: 11mm(square) 3 1/2mm(thickness) Fixed Width 3 1/2mm Band. Diameter: 26mm* 22mm(outer diameter) 19mm(inner diameter) Weight: 3.89 grams. A very handsome and heavily constructed Roman bronze ring with a well-preserved engraved motif. A ... morevery popular geometric design(especially with Celtic artisans) during the first few centuries A.D. Whether the design has any significance other than that merely of a geometric design is difficult to ascertain. Such cross-hatched and geometric designs were quite popular and extensively used. Oftentimes it is possible to identify a particular significance to the design– and opinions here are that it represents a Roman Legionary shield(scutum) design. However more often than not such tentative interpretations are speculative. Unfortunately many themes which may have had a distinct message 2,000 years ago mean nothing to the contemporary onlooker– the significance of the message lost in time. Suffice it to say the bezel of this ring bears a very popular engraved design quite typical of the time. The engraved design is still very distinct and sharp. Little worn by the passage of almost twenty centuries. The pattern looks a bit like an abstract starburst“X” Between two(opposite) arms” of the“X” are sets of three hash marks. The adjacent“arms” have an engraved“V” echoing the top and bottom“v” which together compose the“X” Even if the intent of the desi

CONDITION: Excellent! Completely intact. Moderately light wear, little porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: An exceptionally nicely crafted ... moreand remarkable well preserved ancient Roman bronze ring circa 250-300 A.D. First of all. The ring is massive in its construction. It is three to six times the weight of the typical ring of the era. The bezel is 5mm in thickness, the bands are up to 3mm in thickness. The ring could be worn by successive generations without being worn out. Though it is only 9 1/2 in size, it is nonetheless of massive proportions. The heavy construction is of the more archaic style, characteristically made in two pieces; an incomplete ring(a“shank” with a separately crafted bezel which was brazed to the shank in order to assemble the ring. This as opposed to the more modern style of construction prevalent in the following centuries whereby the bands and bezel are integrated(fashioned from a single piece of metal) As you can clearly see the bezel is sculpted. In what appears to be a six–lobed flower. We’re not sure whether the six-lobed design was meant to look like a flower, but it does. In any event there are seven notches cut out of the side of the bezel giving the appearance of a flower. You can also see that the bands are sculpted as well, three per

Professionally conserved. DETAIL: A handsome. Nicely constructed Roman bronze ring with understated but very elegant features. The ring sports a bezel which at one time held a gemstone, probably originally carnelian(orange colored quartz) However it is not possible to determine the type of gemstone the ring originally possessed as it was recovered without a gemstone. The ring possesses a large oval concave bezel which forms a“cup” for an oval gemstone. The ring is fairly light in construction, of one-piece construction much like a contemporary ring. The more archaic rings produced by Roman artisans were characteristically made in two pieces; an incomplete ring(a“shank” with a separately crafted bezel which was brazed to the shank in order to assemble the ring. This ring has almost modern styling, the design literally“timeless” The Romans had a number of different adhesives they used. Some of the most common being resin and bitumen. Ring is in good condition and a Very Rare Inclusion to the very finest Antiquity Collection. In ancient times since banks did not exist. Soldiers would bury their coins and jewelry before going into battle, and many of them did not return. They were also buried to avoid tax collectors and thieves. In ancient times, a ring distinguished an individual in a way that other forms of jewelry did not. Finger rings represented the language of social code, and connoted one’s social standing. Under the Empire, the finger ring was still ... moreconsidered a privilege, conferred for military distinction. As time wore on and attitudes changed, the ring was more freely bestowed. Even so, the ring retained its position as a mark of dignity, as a rich ornament, as an important seal, and as a token of betrothal. Special caskets were created for holding rings, and it was customary to remove a ring from the casket, to place on the finger of a visiting guest welcomed into one's home. Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with Flowing Incised Design
Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with Flowing Incised Design Description: Bronze ring with attractive random flowing incised design in center. Dark brown patina, slight earthen encrustation. Diameter: 14.9mm Size: US: 4; UK: H ½; Germany: 15; Japan: 7 Click to view supersized image The crafting and wearing of jewelry has been a unique trait exhibited by mankind from our early beginnings. Paleolithic items of adornment have been unearthed that date back 75.000-100,000 years. It is theorized that jewelry originated as a purely functional item used to fasten animal hides together allowing them to be worn as clothing. Findings suggest that jewelry making became more prevalent over 40.000 years ago as mankind migrated from Africa and the Middle East into continental Europe. Early necklaces and bracelets were made from readily available materials ... moresuch as bone, teeth, shells and stone strung together using twine from animal sinew or catgut. The forging of copper some 7.000 years ago allowed metal to be utilized as a material to craft jewelry. The smelting of copper and tin to make the alloy bronze heralded the advent of the Bronze Age some 5.000-6,000 years ago. It is conceivable that metal workers used their knowledge of metallurgy to craft items of adornment as well as tools and weapons. Jewelry has served(and continues to serve) three basic roles. As an ornament it attracts attention and could be used as a testament to hunting prowess or more general attributes. As an amulet holding supernatural power it protected the wearer against physical harm. Warded off evil and healed ailments. As society evolved it also became a symbol of wealth or social standing. Rings were extremely popular among the Romans. Their faith in the curative and protective powers attributed to some stones(as well as shapes and images) provided additional incentive to wear these amulets on their fingers. There were certain rules in the fashion of rings that were strictly observed. Plain bronze and signet rings were worn on either hand while rings se

Rings were extremely popular among the Romans. Their faith in the curative and protective powers attributed to some stones(as well as shapes and images) provided additional incentive to wear these amulets on their fingers.
