Hi. I have for sale an Antique/ Vintage Redware Mexico Tonalan, Jalisco Folk Art 2 handle Jug. It is hand painted and hand thrown. It is a nice piece for it's age. It has white flowers and circle designs. There is a chip on the bottom base(see pictures) and some pock marks due to the firing kiln process. There was a felt pad glued to the bottom which I removed looking for a mark. There is no mark or signature. Pictures are HD and should show everything about the jug or vase. This is an awesome 3 piece tea/coffee set. The Best piece(The Tea Pot) Has a nice large spout. A handle and a lid. It is in excellent condition and I'm unable to locate any deficiencies. The Plate is in very good condition however has a small piece of paint that has flakes on the rim. This is shown in the picture of the plate. The Tea cup is in fair condition for it has 1 deficiency and that is a 3/4" chip along the surface of the cup. It does not effect the integrity of the cup and still can be used for use as well as display and would not be noticed. This is a rare find and is a once and a lifetime purchase. Don't miss out. Offered for your bid is this incredibly beautiful vintage bowl by one of the best known and most famous ceramic artists of Mexico. I place this bowl at mid-20th century. Jose Bernabe's work is one of the most collectible of all the Mexican pottery artists. The bowl measures 6 3/4 inches in diameter at the top and is 2 1/4 inches in height. This bowl has wear to the glaze so please read the condition information above very carefully and look also carefully at the photos before bidding. The design and painting is wonderfully intricate and beautifully executed and is in mostly good condition. The piece is signed on the bottom. It is highly worthy of being preserved as a collection or display piece. This old red clay Mexican pottery had a certain fragility to it and often would crack or break easily. Beautiful Vintage Tonala Jalisco Mexico Hand Painted Plate Dish Bird Pottery
I collected much beautiful hand made folk art on my trips to Mexico in the late 1960's through early 1970's. Among my finds are these exquisite Jalisco Tonala hanging pottery plates. This plate depicts a sweet little white bird with yellow wings. He may be reaching for a plump. Round berry, as he sits next to what could be an interpretation of a yucca plant. Fanciful wildlife, painted with such vibrant detail is typical of these plates. Also notice the detail in the banded border! The plates are wonderfully imaginative and naïve, as all good folk art should be. Completely created of local clays and dyes, painted in a naturalistic style, with highly decorative borders, and using the beautiful, neutral creams, grays, khaki, and terra cotta colors we crave now. The plates are burnished(rubbed) to achieve a warm, soft glowing shine, ... morewhich complement interiors today. The plate was hanging undisturbed for many years. But I am now downsizing and must part with many delightful treasures. I am not certain that this art is as easily obtained in Mexico today, but this is a unique opportunity for acquisition. This piece is about 7 3/4" in diameter and is thoughtfully created with a hanging hole on the back. Condition is just as I found it some 40 years ago(see details above) There is a pinpoint sized dot on the rim. Which is likely a glaze pop, occurring during manufacture. This is a very cool Tonala Mexico hand made LARGE pottery Jug or container. I was told from the 70 year old woman who i acquired the item from that it was purchased by her mother in the 20s or 30s. However I can not confirm this info. What I can tell you is this thing is OLD, COOL and BIG. It is roughly 16 inches tall 13 across and 9 inches wide. IT IS SIGNED BY THE ARTIST ON THE BOTTOM but I have been unable to verify the exact artist. Made with very thick tan cinnamon clay. I would say it weighs almost 20 lbs. It has been hand painted on both sides. A moon scene on one side and a couple birds on the other. The whole thing is decorated very well from top to bottom. There are some condition issues as you can see from the photos.some small nicks in a few spots, general aging to the colors and glaze.
