Thousands of years ago North Africa was a temperate environment similar to our own Great Plains. Countless generations of Stone-Age Man lived. Hunted, fought and died there, leaving behind their weapons and tools. Today, North Africa consists largely of the Sahara Desert, an inhospitable area almost the size of the United States. Constantly shifting sands and the ability to now safely travel off of established trade routes have expanded this fascinating field of study by making these artifacts available to scholars and collectors around the world. The lot consist of all the main types including stemmed. Triangular, ovate, and unifacial and are mostly from the southwestern Sahara(northern Mauritania/Mali) Th ese tools were used to hunt and process water fowl and other game in the now dried up lakes of the Sahara 4.000 years ago. Most of these tools are on the smaller size. The shortest tool is 7/16th inch long(11 mm) The longest tool is 2 1/4th inches(57mm) The condition is good. There are ancient dings to some of these points and tools, as can be expected with working tools, most are complete. See picture for details. The color in hand. Is better than the picture indicates. The natural light somehow washes out the ... morecolor or maybe it's my photography skills. These relics are representative of everyday tools. Many of these tools were used until they could no longer function well because they were to small to re-sharpen at which point they were discarded others were lost in the hunt. A nice diverse sampling of Sahara tools! Background information is provided with my 2-page essay on the subject. Which will be included. Neolithic populations living near now dried lakes and rivers in what is now the Sahara desert; used these tools in the hunt for and processing of waterfowl and small game. The end of the Ice Age resulted in global climate changes which stopped the rains and forced these Neolithic(New Stone Age) peoples into new modes of existence. 30 Sahara Neolithic relics - tools, celt, beads, and 1 paleolithic tool.
This group of 30 Sahara Neolithic relics is composed of diverse types of relics. Which were discovered on ancient habitation sites deep in the western Sahara desert, mostly in the vicinity of northern Muaratania/Mali but also includes two trianglar Eiffel Tower points from Algeria(top second from right and the one right beneath it) This group consist of several types and subtypes of projectile points from varying periods of the Neolithic era. Including ovate, stemmed, triangular, and unifacial tool forms. In all there are 16 stone projectile points and tools, 10 hard-stone beads(mostly quartz disc beads) one pottery bead(western Mauratania) one hardstone celt, and a cylindrical labret of quartz thought to be used in body piercing or lips or ears. Not perfect, tt may have ancient damge, hard to tell but stil nice. There is one unifacil blade ... moreseen at the bottom row to the right is from the late Mesolithic era or early Neolithic Morocco. Dating to approximately 7,000 years Before Present. At the upper right you will see an Auterian tool. This is the earlier known type of stone tool with a stem for hafting. Probably to serve as a knife/scrapper. It is classic form with a tipped which is worked around for scrapping(not broken) This relic is a good 30,000 years old, possibly much older. This is one of the more diverse offering of ancient Sahara relics you will find. The shortest point is a triangle of 5/8th inch(17 mm) long. The longest tool is a nice tan Mesolithic period blade. Is 2 13/16th inches(71 mm) long. The celt is 1 inches(26 mm) long. Heel to bit. It has been worked down to a stubby form with a bit dulled from usage. Th ese are everyday work tools and adornments used. And lost or discarded by our Neolithic and earlier hunter-gatherer ancestors. They are all honest, authentic relics in good shape, some will exhibit minor ancient damage(as seen in he photograph) Such as dings, usually to tips, tangs, and/or barbs to stemmed points. Small dings are to be expected given their delicacy, usage, and 4

The end of the Ice Age resulted in global climate changes which stopped the rains and forced these Neolithic(New Stone Age) peoples into new modes of existence. Either agriculture which was just beginning at the end of the Neolithic, or a nomadic animal husbandry mode of existence. The New Stone Age was a very dynamic era giving rise to agriculture, pottery, and permanent settlements, all of which were milestones in humankinds march toward'civilized' life. The Sahara Neolithic lasted from 9,000 to 4,000 BP(years Before Present) I will include my 2-page essay on the Sahara Neolithic to explain

Neolithic Flint Arrowhead 28mm - 4000BC (035)
Neolithic Flint Arrowhead Length: 28mm Width: 19mm Weight: 1.7 grams Material: Flint Colour: Grey Type: Barbed and Tanged Age: 4000BC Area: Sahara The majority of flints on the market today were found in North West Africa. This is not a reflection on the density of usage of these items but more a reflection of the areas current climate- being very arid it makes it easier to find these items. The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert. Over 9,000,000 km²(3,500,000 mi²) almost as large as the United States. The Sahara is located in northern Africa and is 2.5 million years old. Its name, Sahara, is an English pronunciation of the word for desert in Arabic. The boundaries of the Sahara are the Atlantic Ocean on the west. The Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea on the north, the Red Sea and Egypt on the east, and the Sudan ... moreand the valley of the Niger River on the south. The Sahara is divided into western Sahara, the central Ahaggar Mountains, the Tibesti Mountains, the Aïr Mountains(a region of desert mountains and high plateaus) Tenere desert and the Libyan desert(the most arid region) The highest peak in the Sahara is Emi Koussi(3415 m) in the Tibesti Mountains in northern Chad. The Sahara divides the continent of Africa into North and Sub-Saharan Africa. The southern border of the Sahara is marked by a band of semiarid savanna called the Sahel; south of the Sahel lies the lusher Sudan and the Congo River Basin. During the Late Neolithic period(approx 4000BC– 2000BC) the Sahara had a much wetter climate(sometimes known as the Aqualithic) and was akin to modern day North America. Arrowheads are typically collected and traded by the local nomadic peoples of the Sahara. They find them as the sand dunes move and they travel around seasonally grazing their herds. Finding and collecting items such as these provides them with a reasonable, stable income. Payment via Paypal only- sorry. Had problems with other methods in the past. Payment within 7 days please. Hongshan sites have been found in an area stretching from Inner Mongolia to Liaoning and Hebei. And date from +/ 4700 BC to 2900 BC. The culture is named after Hongshanhou. A site in Hongshan District, Hongshan, Chifeng. The Hongshanhou site was discovered by the Japanese archaeologist Torii Ryuzo in 1908 and extensively excavated in 1935 by Hamada Kosaku and Mizuno Seiichi. Hongshan burial artifacts include some of the earliest known examples of Chinese jade working; the Hongshan culture is known for its jade pig dragons and embryo dragons. The embryo dragon amulets– the first examples of the omnipresent dragon in Chinese art– are also a combination of the baby dragon and the ancient-Bi- symbol” The jade disc with a hole in the center, that represents Heaven– the entire universe– and a way to communicate with it. Stunning White Jade Neolithic Hong Shan Culture Pig Dragon
Stunning White Jade Neolithic Hong Shan Culture Pig Dragon The prehistoric Hong Shan Culture lasted approximately from 4700BC to 2900BC. Located in the north eastern regions of China. This Neolithic civilization had a significant influence in the later development of Chinese, Mongolian and Korean cultures. Jade items discovered in the vast areas covered by the Hong Shan Culture are the first significant nephrite objects showing consistency in style. One of the most famous examples of the Hong Shan jade is the so called Pig Dragon. A highly stylistic and abstract representation of the legendary dragon. With the head of a pig(or boar) and the coiled serpentine body in a rounded fetal position, is considered by archeologists the earliest extant visual representation of the dragon in China. Already in those early days the jade stone was venerated ... morefor its supernatural qualities and sheer beauty. The Pig Dragon was almost certainly worn as an amulet. A symbol of power and authority and buried with the deceased. This jade amulet is carved from top quality creamy white jade. The stone is heavy for its size and pleasantly cool to the touch. The carving is executed with sure, simple lines. Please note that even though it is IMPOSSIBLE to scientifically establish the exact age of a jade artifact. It is reasonably sure that this jade amulet was NOT made during the Neolithic Hong Shan Culture. As grave goods almost invariably turned up, and there was a strong line of continuity in design, many of these objects were fashioned in relatively steady numbers on and off throughout the centuries that followed. This is especially true in the case of ritual and ceremonial objects, such as this Pig Dragon, since the power associated with the object was directly linked to its exact shape, size and material. As a representative of the first great jade working civilization of China. This amulet is a wonderful collector item! Size: 4x5x1.5(cm) Weight: 45g

Ancient Neolithic (?) Painted Two Handle Clay Pot/Vase 2000BC
Ancient Neolithic-Style Intact Painted Two-Handled Earthenware Bowl BC2000. Possibly an 18th or 19th Century Revival Imitative. CLASSIFICATION: Painted Earthenware Bowl with Intact Handles. ATTRIBUTION: In the Style of Pre-Dynastic Ancient China. About 2,000 B.C. Probably an 18th or 19th Century Revival Piece. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 101 millimeters(4 inches) at belly; 77 millimeters(3 1/8 inches) at top lip; 50 millimeters(2 inches) at base. Height: 96 millimeters(3 7/8 inches) Note: Artificial foliage shown is available upon request. CONDITION: Excellent! Entirely intact(including both handles) except for the normal potting blemishes associated with crude hand production; and assorted minor bumps and bruises consistent with wear due to ancient usage and then burial since ancient times. DETAIL: A splendid. Magnificent, and rare painted ... moreearthenware pot/vase. Completely intact except for the very light little blemishes which are obligatory after being buried. The bowl was ostensibly created approximately 4,000 years ago in pre-dynastic China. There are two handles on opposite sides of the bowl, entirely intact and unrepaired. Consider the fact that these bowls are generally not recovered intact, typically they are found shattered into fragments(shards) So the fact that this particular specimen was found intact is quite remarkable. It’s about the size of a very large grapefruit, and as you can see, the painted design is almost entirely intact(95%+) What’s really remarkable is that there is no damage aside from the normal little bumps and bruises which are almost obligatory of an earthen vessel such as this. Notwithstanding these blemishes it has emerged from the soil in wonderful condition! There are a few minor scuffs. Marks, dings, etc. all very small. Of course these are all blemished you would expect to find of a household artifact which was buried, though oftentimes tomb offerings emerge from the earth in extraordinary condition. As well there are the normal blemishes(warts, dimples, pim

Neolithic Chinese Jade Hong Shan Owl Ritual Talisman
Neolithic Chinese Hong Shan Jade Owl Deity Statue The owl was a prominent protective deity on the northern plains of China in early settled agrarian societies. As agriculture replaced hunting and gathering. The safety of the stored grain became very important. As owls’ main diet consists of rodents, these mysterious night birds acquired a protective reputation. Many jade statues small and large were found in the vast area of the grasslands. The watchful appearance of the owl and its close association with night time and lunar power imbued the owl with supernatural powers. As far as we know. The owl god was the most important protective deity of the early northern Neolithic civilizations. The prehistoric Hong Shan Culture lasted approximately from 4700BC to 2900BC. Located in the north eastern regions of China, this Neolithic civilization ... morehad a significant influence in the later development of Chinese, Mongolian and Korean cultures. Jade items discovered in the vast areas covered by the Hong Shan Culture are the first significant nephrite objects showing consistency in style. This owl talisman is carved in smooth simple. Yet energetic lines. Early statues and pendants for ritual use were always very simply worked, usually from high quality precious jade stones. The image had to capture the essence of the represented deity, not its exact shape in details. The area of the Hong Shan Culture is home to various, different color nephrite jade. The geological formation of this area is such as many different impurities are present in jade stones. From the creamiest white, through yellows, reds, greens to very highly saturated black jade, all varieties were locally mined in the Inner Mongolian region for 1000s of years. This particular owl pendant is made of a superbly polished. Rich red nephrite. Red in nephrite is caused by intense iron oxide impurities. It was worn on a thin leather“stripe” around the neck, close to the body. This is a wonderful collector item, as well as a fantastic piece of rare and original jewel

HUGE Neolithic China Painted Tripod Censer Pot 2000BC
HUGE! Well Preserved Ancient Painted Earthenware(Terra Cotta) Painted Censer Pot in the Style of Neolithic China BC2000. Possibly an 18th or 19th Century Revival Imitative. CLASSIFICATION: Neolithic Painted Earthenware Tripod Pot. ATTRIBUTION: In the Style of Pre-Dynastic Ancient China. About 2,000 B.C. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 249 millimeters(10 inches) Diameter: 256 millimeters(10 1/4 inches) at bowl; 174 millimeters(7 inches) at top lip. Notes: Artificial foliage shown is available upon request. CONDITION: Very good. Two of three legs reattached. One medium sized rim chip reattached. Assorted abrasions. And scuffs consistent with primitive hand construction and wear due to ancient usage and then burial since ancient times. As well there are the normal blemishes(warts, dimples, pimples and pits) one expects with ancient hand crafted earthenware ... morevessels. DETAIL: A splendid. Very, very large and well preserved earthenware tripod censer/pot jarostensibly from the late third or early second millennium B.C. It’s a very large piece, nearly the size of a basketball. As you can see, when produced it featured painted circumferential accent lines– of which there are clear, easily discernible, and substantial pigment remnants, though they are especially evident from the shoulder upwards. The vessel is(remarkably enough) complete with three stubby legs. Though it may be referred to at its simplest as a legged“pot” it is quite likely that it was intended as a censer. This type of vessel was generally used for smoldering twigs of aromatic woods, a primitive form of“incense” They were oftentimes funerary items, entombed(presumably still emitting fragrant plumes of aromatic smoke) with the deceased. What’s really remarkable is that it is presumably about 4,000 years old and is still by and large intact. You can imagine that after being unearthed after centuries of burial. Large terra cotta vessels such as this are rarely recovered intact. This wonderful and rare example of a Neolithic painted censer, unli

Chinese Black Jade Horse Sculpture - Hongshan/Neolithic
Really beautiful and unique artifact- a dark black jade horse head sculpture dating from the Hongshan Period(roughly similar to the Neolithic Era) An intriguing piece that has a horse's head protruding from an unnaturally long neck(early Surrealism? unlike any I've seen before. The carving is excellent. With subtle details really making the piece amazing. It's in good condition for its age, but does show some wear- there are tiny scratches on the base, and two small chips missing from the horse's mane. Measures 8.5" tall. 7" deep, and 2.75" wide. PB1-28-First of all. Thanks for looking at my items. These are compiled as a labor of love and as an attempt to get the best quality items into the most appreciative hands. For the sake of accuracy. Weight is posted to the nearest gram but occasionally, if very heavy, ... morein ounces. Weight is always the total weight of the object and may or may not give a good idea of the scrap value as I do not guess the weight of wood. Mirrors, screws, bolts, or anything that may not be silver or gold. I do not take apart or clean anything after listing an item. It is up to the new owner to clean silver and other metals. My scale computes to the nearest gram and it has been tested and calibrated. A note to silver scrappers: There are those on Ebay who will claim that the weight of an object is less than advertised and demand a rebate after the auction has ended. This is an ongoing trend and these individuals seem to complain if silver prices go down between the day they buy and the day they receive. When one melts silver one can lose as much as 5% of the weight in the smelting process and I can not be held responsible for weight lost after melting. I do not generally melt anything that is well made as it makes little sense to me. So any potential loss should be considered before purchasing my items. All my items are measured with a standard tape measure and are rounded off to the quarter inch. I attempt to be as accurate as possible. But odd surfaces can prov

4750Y.O: GORGEOUS BATTLE AX C EUROPEAN STONE AGE NEOLITHIC CORDED WARE CULTURE
EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description Neolithic stone artifact is a polygonal/ facet battle ax from the Corded Ware Single Grave Culture. Dating 2900-2350 bc. The Corded Ware culture. Alternately characterized as the Battle Axe culture or Single Grave culture is an enormous European archaeological horizon that begins in the late Neolithic(stone age) flourished through the copper age and finally culminates in the early bronze age, developing in various areas from 2900 BC to ca. 2350 BC. With the Yamna culture, it represents the introduction of metal into Northern Europe, and the earliest expansion of the Indo-European family of languages. It receives its name Corded Ware from its characteristic pottery, Single Grave from its burial custom, and Battle Axe from its characteristic grave offering to males, ... morea stone battle axe(which was by this time an inefficient weapon but a traditional status symbol) In the west, the distribution boundary reaches Netherland, West Germany and parts of Switzerland. In the North the Corded Ware is found in Southern Scandinavia, the countries around the Baltic and the eastern North Sea. It’s southern distribution ranges from Switzerland to the Czech Republic and includes the upper portions of the streams that flow into the Black Sea. The somewhat later Beaker culture was contemporaneous. It is succeeded by a number of bronze age cultures, among them the Unetice culture(Central Europe) ca 2300 BC, and by the Nordic Bronze Age, a culture of Scandinavia and northernmost Germany- Poland, ca 1800 BC. Considering its immense, continental expanse, it clearly represents a fusion of earlier archaeological cultures of varying degrees of relatedness, probably led by intrusive elements from the east and south. It does not represent a single monolithic entity, but rather a diffusion of technological and cultural innovations. The fact that the Globular Amphora culture similtaneously overlies much of the same area as of the Corded Ware culture proves this

Description The Chinese regard carved jade objects as intrinsically valuable. And they metaphorically equate jade with human virtue due to its solidity, durability and(moral) beauty. Many countries boast a jade ware culture. But none of them can China's long jadeware history. In China, ... morejadeware underwent a long process of development beginning from the New Stone Age 10,000 years ago.The patterns of China's jadeware have rich connotations, revealing strong, auspicious colors. Bats and gourds were used as subjects for more than 100 patterns because the Chinese words"bat" and"gourd" sound like"good fortune" in Chinese. When a bat was carved on an ancient coin with a hole, it meant that fortune was at hand; bats coupled with birthday peaches referred to fortune and longevity; bats mixed with sika, birthday peaches and magpies were also considered good omens. These beliefs reflected the ancient Chinese people's yearning for a happy life and revealed the essence of China's traditional culture. Jade in China is varied and can be divided into two categories: hard and soft jade. Good materials provide a strong basis for jadeware carving. But the value of a jade object depends on the skills and reputation of the craftsman, date of carving, peculiar modeling and the owner's status. Certainly, different people will have various views on the value of the same jade object. It is difficult to have a unanimous standard. Due t

High Quality Neolithic Flint Arrowhead 31mm - 4000BC (A13)
Neolithic Flint Arrowhead Length: 31mm Width: 14mm Material: Flint Colour: Grey Type: Barbed and Tanged- Tang unbroken Age: 4000BC Area: Sahara A superior quality beautiful example. I have personally handled over 10.000 of these'flints' during my collecting over the last 10 years. The majority of flints on the market today were found in North West Africa. The boundaries of the Sahara ... moreare the Atlantic Ocean on the west. The Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea on the north, the Red Sea and Egypt on the east, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River on the south. P

huge 5.25inch 13.5cm ancient neolithic quartz pendant bead or implement mali #97
An ancient neolithic pendant quartz stone pendant bead from the sub sahara region of West Africa. This an authentic neolithic artifact and not one of the newly manufactured'ancient stone artifacts' that are coming out of Niger recently. It is very unlikely that this was used as a tool. Quartz is not durable enough for this purpose. It would have been very beautiful when new and is the classic shape for large pendant beads from this region. The tiny white spots in the picture are where the quartz is showing through the patina and shining in the sun. This object could be cleaned but that would be up to the buyer. The bead measures in diameter 135 mm, 5.25 inches and 35 mm in depth at the center. The condition is excellent. The picture is enlarged to show detail, please refer to the measurements for the actual size. Scroll down the page ... morefor a view of both sides of the bead. there are more great beads and artifacts at my other location with the same name as my ebay store Powered by The free listing tool. 3 MICROLITHE BLADE/DRILL FLINT"Paris Basin"MESOLITHIC/NEOLITHIC/FRENCH PREHISTOR
flint blond white patina of the Paris Basin MESOLITHIC/ NEOLITHIC type of debitage Levallois method.SIZE MAX 59MM ref 764 10.000 TO 3.000 BC most of them are Middle Paleolithic. some are Upper Paleolithic and some of its objects are some early Neolithic. But the definition is difficult. because I was often asked the same question about the age I said it's actually quite easy. The patina is the result of an alteration of flint blond by particular component of the earth in this region. is an extremely long process. on some parts, it reaches 1/ 2 mm. it's a good way of dating but not infallible it depends on the burial environment. on flint dating back three or four thousand years is superficial alteration of tenth of a millimeter, but it is decreasing which mean it takes longer in the second tenth. you can see the example photo of a ... morecut in slices and the patina over two millimeters. not in sale) COMBINE SHIPPING fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moustérien. google.fr/imgres?imgurl=http:www.la-detection.com/dp/images2/61894R14.jpg&imgrefurl=http:www.la-detection.com/dp/message-61894.htm&usg=_EVyQcb3KlQoUMVF7liFXFpMnsA4=&h=578&w=667&sz=28&hl=fr&start=74&sig2=-mJ_mnwNrmA5gtS0a5Dz3w&zoom=1&tbnid=mLq3Os-BLonPiM:tbnh=120&tbnw=138&ei=HZTMTPyhDeWG4gaB75DdDA&prev=/images?q=HACHE BASSIN PARSIEN&start=60&um=1&hl=fr&safe=off&sa=N&gbv=1&rlz=1B3GGLL_fr_FR399&tbs=isch:1&um=1&itbs=1. google.fr/imgres?imgurl=http:www.cavernes-saintonge.info/paleo/zgraqb1.jpg&imgrefurl=http:www.cavernes-saintonge.info/nomade.htm&usg=_HPPnJpaywFvoZ11-zK_hf2qVSCk=&h=388&w=500&sz=71&hl=fr&start=84&sig2=ea7cEqGIzV9biGP1ak8Bgw&zoom=1&tbnid=gcspCGYOhjVJ-M:tbnh=101&tbnw=130&ei=tIvMTODVAceH4Qb2zf2CDg&prev=/images?q=PALEOLITHIQUE BASSIN PARSIEN&start=80&um=1&hl=fr&safe=off&sa=N&gbv=1&rlz=1B3GGLL_fr_FR399&tbs=isch:1&um=1&itbs=1.

5000Y.O: GREAT AX HAMMER DANISH STONE AGE NEOLITHIC FLINT FUNNEL BEAKER C VALBY
NORTHERN EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description"Thick Butted A-ax( axe) Valby- Type" used as a hammer as well! Belonging to the later part of the Younger Funnel Beaker Culture. The TRB, also called Passage Grave Culture 3400-2800 bc. Agriculture and animal husbandry were introduced in Denmark c. 4000 BC. Wheat and barley were grown and oxen. Sheep, goats and pigs domesticated. Large parts of the land were cultivated during the oldest peasant culture, 4000-2800 BC, and the earliest farmers were energetic builders. They constructed large assembly areas surrounded by moats and palisades like the one found near Sarup on Funen. They also built the oldest stone burial monuments, the dolmens and the passage graves, many thousands of which have been preserved in Denmark. Flint mines were opened and ... morea whole new industry emerged which specialised in the production of elegant, polished flint axes. Large numbers of offerings have been found, including clay pots, flint tools and amber ornaments, and there is evidence of human and animal sacrifices. The first metal was brought into the country from Central Europe in the shape of simple ornaments and flat axe heads made of copper. Thick-butted axes with a gently curving cutting-edge. Slightly curved or often almost flat sides and flat edges sloping in to a rectangular butt. The sides and cutting-edge are thoroughly polished but the edges show often. With the exception of some of the thin-bladed types. Negligible polishing, only at the ends of the cutting-edge. But a very conscientious flat flaking. The type is characteristic of the Passage-Grave Culture being found in settlement sites. However, they are in the minority compared with the heavy thin-butted type. And they come to predominate only in the later finds. Thick Butted-Axes are known from the middle of the Scandinavian Passage-Grave Culture and then througout the following Neolithic Single Grave and Dagger Cultures. Valby axes are thick-butted axes with unpolished small-sid
