INTERESTING FRAMED ANCIENT EGYPTIAN COPTIC TEXTILE FRAGMENT/ COLLAR 7th- 10thC Description: A hugely interesting and decorative framed and glazed Coptic ... moretextile fragment. Forming a large section of collar trim from an early linen tunic, and dating to circa 7th-10th Century AD. The collar fragment would have formed the front edging to a traditional tunic. And is woven with geometric and naturalistic designs in beige and brown on a red ground. The textile fragment has been mounted. Framed and glazed in a strong lacquered brass frame. Since remote antiquity. Egypt has been a key producer of textiles including examples such as this in woven linen and wool. Akhmim in Middle Egypt was an important centre for the production of this type of textile. A remarkable number of Coptic textiles survive today. Due to the Coptic custom of burying their dead in traditional tunics with woven decorated panels, and to the aridity of Egyptian graves. Dimensions: Textile: 37 cm or 14 1/2 inches long. 5 cm or 2 inches wide Framed: 48.3 cm x 27.6 cm or 19 inches x 10 7/8 inches Condition: The textile is as shown in the images. The frame and mount sets the piece off perfectly. And is strong with only a few minor scratches to the brass. Please see the images provided which complement this description. You are bidding on a true piece of Biblical history! Presenting a handwritten Coptic Ethiopian Bible w/ great handpainted sce nes throughout! Written ... morein the Ethiopic(Ge'ez) script. A Semitic language that is no longer spoken, but is still used for liturgical and other religious purposes by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The subject of these"Bibles" are generally always Christian, but actual content varies. Dating Ethiopian manuscripts is very difficult as scribes copied old monastic manuscripts using the same materials as had been used for centuries, and have been as old as the 14th century; this carries many examples of a bit of age, with original vellum animal skin pages, faded and worn at the edges, with some folk art drawings and figures as well as more modern color paintings, possibly totems. We could loosely guess this one originated sometime c1700-1850, with the covers(nicely embossed with a cross pattern) stitching, and hand paintings a bit more contemporary, probably c1900-1950. There are marginal traces of red paint to the page edges as well, origin unknown. A majority of the text are incantations to protect the owner from supernatural forces. Written in black. With color religious figure drawings, as shown. This example is bound in square leather covered wooden boards with a cross pattern and border. The cover tied through with twine into the thin leaves. There is some definitive age to the interior of this example, and some staining, which is normal for these rare gems. The twine is holding very firmly. There are 18 leaves/36 pages in this, with 4 modern color figure totem illustrations(one period illustration in black as shown) Obtained in an online auction direct from Ethiopia. Bible measures 3.5" x 4.5" A True treasure. These have sold for $1,000s of dollars, and this particular copy has a true feeling of history and culture, especially with the drawings and aged vellum, as shown, and is extremely rare and unique. Best of luck! Posted with the

64" in length. 3 and 1/4" in width. Amulet scrolls carry magic formulas or prayers specific to the person, most often a woman, for whom they ... morewere made. They were prepared and written by a dabtara. An unordained cleric, a class thought to have particularly close association with the spirit world. The scrolls carried a variety of spells, prayers and magic formulas that offered protection or cure against the Evil Eye, malevolent spirits and physical ailments. Small undecorated scrolls were rolled and worn. One almost standard inclusion in these scrolls, known as the seal of Solomon or'captive devil' shows a face surrounded by eight horns within a grid of nine squares. It appears here in two forms and represents a demon trapped within the confines of the spell written in red around it, testifying to its efficacy and thus scaring away any other evil spirits. This particular scroll is in fair condition with slight water damage along the bottom. `4`.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Feog4d71f%2B%3E%604%60-14b62f4a044-0x115-

EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITION WOODEN SHADOW BOX FRAME with DOUBLE MATTING Name: CHILD'S FUNERAL MASK Time: c. AD 200- 300(Coptic Period) Location: Egypt BACKGROUND A handsome Egyptian child of noble birth who died in the flower of youth. The wonder one can see in this funeral mask from 200 to 300 AD. Belies the very high children's mortality rate from gastric disorders and dysentery. Living in poor hygienic conditions, children born into this Egyptian world had to endure and survive many diseases borne by their water and food. That such a lovely portrait was made indicates that this child was probably an aristocrat, perhaps of a family of the priestly orders. The original mask was made of wood covered with gesso and was discovered by archeologists in a tomb with other mummies. Presumably members of the family.

This artifact measures 6 inches and is damaged as shown. Originally the term"Copt" referred to the native people who lived in Egypt(opposed to the Arabs or Greeks) who invaded Egypt. The term later became a religious one referring to Christian Egyptians. The Coptic period therefore starts at the 1st millennium of the Christian era. When Christianity thrived in Egypt. Coptic artist draws inspiration and influence from ancient Egypt, classic Greece, Rome and Near Eastern art. Although Coptic art is in general associated with Christianity, many of its motifs ... moreare clearly non-Christian in form as with this example. The style of Coptic art evolved from the late antique art of Egypt, retaining Greek and Roman influences. The stylistic nature of Coptic art moved away from the"natural" style we see in Greek and Roman art of the human form. Outlines and detail are very simplified and this terracotta women is an excellent example of this style. Some of the archaeological sites are El-Bagawat, Oxyrhynchus, Sakkara, Bawit, and Antinoë. Provenance: Collected by Gustave Jéquier(1868-1946) Galleria Delvecchio. is pleased to present a collection of Egyptian antiquities assembled by the celebrated Swiss Egyptologist Gustave Jéquier. Jéquier was born in 1868 in Neuchatel. He first studied in Paris under Gaston Maspero(1846-1916) and later went to Berlin before joining the de Morgan expedition to Persia. During which time he contributed to the discovery and decipherment of the code of Hammurabi. Gustave Jéquier was a giant in the field of Egyptology whose contributions are far too numerous to list here. He is best know for his association with the French Institute in Cairo which enabled him to engage in seminal

Silver Ethiopian Amharic Orthodox Coptic Church Icon - Tewahado Amhara Orthdox
This is an extremely rare and well-fashioned Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Icon which I brought out of Ethiopia several years ago. Over the last few years the government has all but halted the transport of authentic Ethiopian Orthodox Church icons out of the country. Additionally. The painting and craftsmanship of this particular piece makes it highly, highly collectible. This is one of the nicest Tewahedo Orthodox Icons I have ever seen and will make a fantastic addition to one's collection. Here are the specifications of this icon: Weight: 170.3 Grams Measurements: Height- 4.875 inches Width Closed- 3.625 inches Width Open- 5.24 inches Composition: This icon was tested twice for precious metals composition; once in Ethiopia via an acid test and once in the U.S. via a handheld XRF Analysis Gun. In Ethiopia. This icon was tested at Teklu ... moreDesta Werk Bet in Piazza- Addis Ababa. They concluded that the piece was a silver alloy consisting of 35-50% silver. The XRF analysis was done more recently in Miami- February 2013- and revealed a variety of different readings ranging from 55-88% silver. It was the assayers opinion that the icon was either a silver alloy or a non-precious metal coated with an unusually thick layer of silver which is not typical for modern plating jobs. In many cases with antiques and artifacts a high silver content is actually a plus. However for Ethiopian Religious Icons it is a actually a negative aspect. Older Ethiopian Orthodox icons were always made from a silver alloy, containing large amounts of copper. Icons made in Ethiopia within the past sixty years are either copper, bronze and nickel alloys or.800 silver. Older icons were made from a silver alloy which usually ranged from 20-55% silver with nickel and copper often comprising the remaining percentage of the metal. As a rule the older icons(and also crosses) in Ethiopia are usually in the 35-45% range for silver content. Icons and crosses fashioned with anything above 60% silver content are usually of post-1950 fabrication. T

Very Nice Vintage / Antique Stone or Slate Ethiopian Coptic Icon
Very Nice Vintage/ Antique Stone or Slate Ethiopian Coptic Icon For your consideration is an Ethiopian Coptic Christian Icon made of what I believe is slate due to the weight. It is very nicely carved and features two opening doors. One on each side, that when opened reveal four saints. I am unsure of the age of the piece, but the original owner bought it in Egypt in the 1970's from an antique dealer. The piece is very traditionally done, so it could be quite old. It measures 4.5 x 2.75 inches when closed and each panel is 2.25 x 2.5 inches. If you have any questions or need more pictures just ask. We have lots of other unique items and are always adding more so please check out our store often. Thank you for looking. Powered by The free listing tool.
