American Pennsylvania Chippendale Tall Chest of Drawers Highboy, 18th Century

Circa 1760-80 Item# 120106UTT08 This early tall case antique chest of drawers is a fine example of 18th Century Pennsylvania craftsmanship. Representing the desire for curvature and embellishment even in the clean lines we've come to love from Pennsylvania cabinetmakers. Framed inside the handsome carved crown projecting over the entire case, the top of this tall case chest of drawers is unusually finished with a smooth planed walnut surface. It's height is just at the level where a craftsman must choose whether to leave it unfinished. Or if a tall client might be offended by the rough surface- clearly the cabinetmaker chose to err on the side of caution in his design by finishing it completely. The fully graduated gallery ... moreof three small drawers over six broad drawers naturally draws the eye upward. True to Pennsylvania tradition. The secondary woods of the drawers are thick and generous; each drawer has thick hand dovetails front and back, the bottom being very heavily chamfered along all edges to rabbet into the sides. Replaced hardware on each drawer is somewhat mismatched- look carefully at the photos for details. The original hardware does appear to have been batwing, which would be appropriate for a piece of this design and formality, though clearly larger and with more presence than the current brasses. Many of the locks are still original, secured with rose head nails- the holes for the replaced hardware have been carefully respected and for the most part are undisturbed(see photos for exceptions) Flanking the drawers are two long fluted columns with ring-turned capitals and bases. Seemingly lifting the canopy on this chest and making the overall heavy design appear light and easy. The sides of the case dovetail top and bottom into the case, though the top dovetails are hidden beneath the walnut top. Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. 18th CENTURY SPANISH COLONIAL AMERICAS BIG BELT BUCKLE Presented is a remarkable. Spanish colonial silver belt buckle of good weight made during the 1700s or perhaps as early as the 1600s. This is definitely an antique piece. During the 17th and 18th centuries, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas were referred to as the 4 continents; the scene on these buckles are representative of the Americas. Each large buckle has a ruffled border and is hand chased with raised palm trees and a native dressed with feathers. The buckles are large and one of them is still attached to the original, thick chain mail belt. This belt must have been incredibly strong! We can imagine that perhaps a Spanish Conquistador such as Cortes, Ponce de Leon, de Soto or Pizarro once wore this belt, ... morebecause of the high quality of the piece. The buckles are guaranteed to be at least 800 purity. This buckle set is in very good condition for its age. It is incredible that this old piece is even still in tact! There is a small bend to one of the ruffles at the bottom of one buckle. On the edge but this is only noticeable upon close inspection. Unfortunately most of the actual belt portion is missing. You can see where it was once attached to one of the medallions. There are no other problems. Each buckle measures 2 1/2 by 3 3/8 inches. The combined weight of the buckles and the thick belt part is 256 grams or 9 ounces. Good luck and bid with confidence. Antique Victorian Brass Spelter Onyx Tavern Table Lamp Stand LION HEAD FEET Base
This amazing table base dates from the middle to late 1800s and appears to be of American origin. It was most likely for a high end pool hall. River boat or similar and stands just 27” x 18 ½” across the MASSIVE cast white metal classical base with roaring lions’ heads, clawed paw feet, anthemion, scrolls and you name it. The 4” diameter column of reeded solid brass pipe is accented by a considerable disc of natural onyx and all of the fittings are cast and engine turned brass with traces of dore color. The surfaces are all original and have not been polished, so you will note spots of tarnish and verdigris under a protective coat of wax. Likewise the base has worn original gold paint under a dark wax polish that accents the details in the casting. The white metal has a missing anthemion and several structural cracks with late bolt repairs ... moreand some baling wire thrown in for good measure. The wrought iron reinforcements appear to be original. It is sturdy and usable and stands just a bit off-kilter. Nayarit Culture. 250 BC to 200 AD. SIZE: Height- 8.25" 12 cm) Width- 4.5" 11.5 cm) Depth- 3.5" 9 cm) An anthropomorphic male sitting figure. Leaning forward with his left hand holding an object in, or up to his mouth. His right hand is on his right knee. The figure has foreshortened legs, long curving arms of unequal length, a flattened face with a proportionate nose and coffee bean eyes. He is wearing multiple ear spools. This figure's head. Body, and legs are hollow and there is a large round opening at the top of his head, making the piece into a vessel as well as a figure. The figure's hair is cut into bangs across the forehead and the details ... moreof the hair were inscribed into the clay before firing. The neckline also has dimension and is raised up from the body. Depicting the figure to be wearing clothing. The surface of the figure is of the red burnished- polished clay and there are remnants of white and possibly black slip pigments painted on the face. There may have been yellowish designs on the chest. As well, but if so they hardly visible now. The surface shows dark dimensional manganese deposits in many areas. And some light encrustations of dirt and other substances in the crevices. This piece is between 1.800 and 2,250 years old. It was collected during the 1940's and was obtained from an old San Francisco collection. Condition: This piece is in good excavated condition with no losses. The following is noted: A tight. Stable, very thin hairline extending from the front of the figure's throat, over his right shoulder, to the back of his neck. It appears that there is a very old repair where the upper left part of the head has been glued back after a separation. A line showing this runs under his left eye, up the forehead and hair and down the back of his head and over the left ear(please see photos

Each measures approx. 4 1/2" tall with a projection of about 4 1/2" to the back of the flange) Each has a 3/4" OD threaded rod in the back, one has some type of extender or adapter on it(the extender gives the back rod an length of about 2" from the flange.on the other the length is about 1" I do not know how functional these faucets are, they may need some repair/refurbishment such as new washers or other work to make them functional. The vicus culture was an important early society that inhabited northern Peru and southern Columbia 2000 years ago.It was a reletively unknown civilization untill tomb artifacts started appearing on the art market from that area in the 1950's.This vessel has a story to tell in that the personage depicted on the bottle is a stripped and bound enemy captive.His hands bound behind his back.Ancient American cultures treated their war prisoners in this manner,stripping them of all clothing and personal items and keeping them in a submissive crouching position in order to humiliate them as much as possible before torture and execution.The helmet on this example clearly shows the intent of the potter to mark this ... moreindividual as an enemy captive warrior and not simply an ordinary prisoner.In reality the enemy captive would not have been allowed to keep his helmet,much less wear it after his defeat.
