Djenne area, Materials, Terracotta Approximate Age, Unknown, Dimensions, 5.5 inches H. x 3.5 inches W. Overall Condition, Poor. Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents. And have been treasured by several owners.  Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage. Damage/Repair, fragment(head and neck only) Cracks repaired with glue, chips. FRAGILE! Terracotta head Fragment. Inland Niger Delta Mali Additional Information: A ... moreterracotta fragment depicting a head with neck. This head is modeled in a style known as proto-Dogon found in Mali in the inland Niger Delta. Based on its facial details. Numerous clay objects have come to light from the great âInland Delta Culturesâ of the Niger River and Benue River confluence. The age of this interesting figure is unknown. I have not had this piece thermoluminescence tested for age. But can recommend a laboratory if you would like one. This fragment may not be an old piece but its surface shows that it could come from a grave and was therefore of probable ritual purpose. After being decorated the figure was fired at a relatively low temperature to give it the brownish-red color that it has. This process is still followed in the pottery found in the region today. This interesting piece would certainly add an âarchaeologicalâ aspect to a collection. See examples of full figures of the same style in Karl-Ferdinand Schaedler. Here is a wonderfully intricate terra cotta vase from a Santa Barbara estate. With two dragons serving as handles. It measures 12 inches tall, with the stand, 14 inches tall. I don't know the age, but I've seen similar items that date to the early 20th century. No chips, cracks or repairs, but needs a cleaning. Handsome solid hardwood base. Antique 19th century Earthenware Terracotta Tea Caddy Yi Hsing CheKiang Provence
This Beautiful old Chinese Tea pot was made of red clay and is decorated with several embossed pictures of a man holding a wheel. It is marked on the bottom as well as under the lid. We do not speak or know enough about Chinese to make any claims about this pot. So we took it to the Antiques Road Show to get information about it. Here is what we learned. It was made in Yi Hsing in the Chekiang provence of China. The mark on it says that it was made during the Chien Lung era(1735-1796) but after further study, We found that it wasn't(so much for hopes) Instead it was made in the 1870's under a commision by the company that used the original mark. This we can believe. It even looks old. It is in very good condition. It's only issues are a couple of chips along the edge of the lid. Please see the photos for details. I purchased this Roman? votive a few years ago here on E-Bay.I never had it authenticated so I'm selling it'in the manner of' ancient Roman) It measures 6 1/2 inches high with base. I believe it to be ancient because of the terracotta being cured at a low fire opposed to higher fired ovens of today. The condition is good with the exceptions of it having an old repair(crack) The marble base also has a small chip and the votive is loose on the base. It is being listed at a very low starting price with no reserve. Many times lower than what I had paid.
