There is a beautiful floral design enamel decoration and a section of velvet on the sheath. One of the scabbard mounts is somewhat detached or loose. I can see the metal looks different in that one spot where it must have been soldered once before. The original chain link is missing. So I added a section of a chain from my personal jewelry. The blade is 9 inches long and the total length of the dagger with the scabbard is 14 1/2 inches. This knife is in good condition for it's age. It is a granular blade with a random pattern. This Turkish Ottoman cavalry helmet with a plain shallow domed steel skull plate fitted on the top with a tubular plumb holder and the chain mail formed of a riveted and solid iron rings suspended from the rim. It measures 21" high. A very old and rare most to find helmet of great olden times.This type of helmet became a favorite of the 17th.c. Turkish Ottoman armored cavalry. Condition: Rusty the interior on the edge of the skull is with an older repai( reinforced by small iron plate. We have wided the helmet by help of two pencils to show in better condition. Condition and the fine details. Comparable helmets were well documented in war catalogue. During research I have found the following information. During the 17th.centaury. The Turkish Ottoman cavalry transformed from heavy armor to light cavalry, abandoning heavy turban type helmets, and adoption light helmets with steel circular dish shaped tops. Tops were attached with chain mail that is constructed from much thicker gauge rings than the typical Indo Persian chain mails, also each ring is riveted which is characteristic for Ottoman chain mail. Some of these were made with plumbe holder and others without a plumbe holder. This type of helmet became a favorite of the 17th.c. Turkish Ottoman armored cavalry. Reference: Another comparable Turkish helmet is published in the Sotheby's catalogue. Art Of the Islamic world-Sotheby's London, 07 October 2009( lot 166) and was sold for GBP 3750. Piel Bros. Wicker ottoman. It is very pretty and I am sure someone painted it at some point. The history of the Piel Bros manufacturing is hard to find but I did find two items on the internet from two other individuals who own a wicker rocking chair and a wicker baby stroller. The Piel Bros. made wicker items from the 1880's to about 1914 then they went into different kinds of ventures and finally became a starch producing company during and after the depression. Antique Filigree Silver Belt Syrian Ottoman Islamic
I scoured the internet for something to compare this belt to and found similar designs from Turkey. Syria, Damascus and more. I think it might be a Syrian Wedding Belt but I can't prove it. It has exquisite filigree detailing throughout. There are red patterns along the silver threaded belt with alternating silver and gold plated pieces. The pieces on the buckle swivel but seem fine and are attached by a small screw. The filigree on the buckle is layered on top of a purple background with a red stone or glass bead in the center. There is a twine like string threaded through the metal pieces to hold them to the belt. One section of the thread has come apart and another part was retied.
