V. Old Antique Brass Water Jug, 1800s, Indian/Ottoman, sourced in N Africa
On auction is one very old brass jug. I sourced this in Sudan which was dug out of an old. Destroyed house and saved it from going to be melted. This piece is hefty and made for years of use. Antique experts in Sudan estimated it to be from the 18th or 19th century period of Egyptian/Ottoman rule in Sudan. They guessed this based on the quality of work and what they described as a typical Ottoman design on either side of this jug. At 1.1 kg(nearly 2.4 pounds) this piece is an ancient find that was built for use. The base seems to have a very old repair on it probably made by those who were using it. The spout. Although quite stoutly made in its own right, also seems to have had a very early repair on it as well. Yes. I had cleaned this carefully with Autosol when I first found it. I had to to see what it was and as I didn't have any intention ... moreof selling it at the time, I cleaned it for display with some of the other wonderful things we found in the Sudan. This piece stands just over 9" tall, is about 10.25" long and is about 4.5 inches wide. When it cleaned it some years ago. I found that the bottom patch weeped a bit. However, the spout poured straight and true. A truly wonderful piece. However. As we have hundreds of pounds of antique copper and brass, we are starting to move things on. First I thought it was some kind of Kentucky rifle cartridge or black powder pouch. Or possibly German. I do live in an area that many german immigrants settled in. I have no idea what it is but recently got an opinion that it was possibly middle eastern, thus the catagory choice. It is made of layered doeskin& mounted with silver colored metal engraved decorations& a working twist lock. They may have lower silver content or be gunmetal. I know the brass pin does not belong there on the belt loop. But it's as I found it. It is skillfully made& beautiful. I've concurred with some people I know that it's late 1600s. Early 1700s, but no one is quite sure what it's true use was. Think about it though, what else would a traveling warrior carry in something this size besides his weapons& some money. The construction is very similar to armor. Interesting four-legged shape. Brass crescent and disc shape. Clearly Islamic. Hand cut and shaped brass ring on the top edge as well. Circa 18th century. Very possibly earlier. Originates from the Asian parts of the Ottoman Empire. Shows clear Chinese influence. Especially seen in the shape and construction of the legs. You are bidding on a antique ceramic pipe. These were found off the coast of Crete by an American soldier free diving on personal time during the 1950's. These were found in the ocean. So they do have what might be Mediterranean corral on it as well as other forms of silt. Based on where they were found, what they are, and the condition we do believe these were probably from the Ottoman Empire after they captured Crete in 1646. These are our opinions and are based on what we have researched and from what we were told when these items were acquired so please use your own judgment before you decide to make a purchase. Chaise& Ottoman This listing is for a 1950's chaise lounge chair with ottoman. It has been completely restored. With new rattan, finish, and bark cloth. The chair is 32" x 37"x 30" upright. There is the original spring in the back with adjustable settings. The ottoman is 28 1/2" x 23" x 15" tall. No flaws in the fabric. Like new, restored condition.
