One of the most famous examples of the Hong Shan jade is the so called Pig Dragon. A highly stylistic and abstract representation of the legendary dragon. With the head of a pig(or boar) and the coiled serpentine body in a rounded fetal position, is considered by archeologists the earliest extant visual representation of the dragon in China. Already in those early days the jade stone was venerated for its supernatural qualities and sheer beauty. The Pig Dragon was almost certainly worn as an amulet. Lot Description: This is a diverse group of 33 common and diverse Sahara desert found tools. This lot contains of all the main types including stemmed. Triangular, and ovate forms from the southwestern Sahara(northern Mauritania/Mali) There are also a couple of Moroccan early unifacial type tools from the Mesolithic era Sahara. Th ese tools were used to hunt and process water fowl and other game in the now dried up lakes of the Sahara 4.000 years ago. The shortest tool is 7/16th inch long(18 mm) The longest tool is 2 7/16th inches(62 mm) The condition is good. The grade is common, there minor ancient dings to many of these points and tools, as can be expected with working tools. See picture for details. These relics are representative of everyday tools. Many of these tools were used until they could no longer function well because they were ... moreto small to re-sharpen at which point they were discarded others were lost in the hunt. A nice diverse sampling of Sahara tools! Background information is provided with my 2-page essay on the subject. Which will be included. Neolithic populations living near now dried lakes and rivers in what is now the Sahara desert; used these tools in the hunt for and processing of waterfowl and small game. The end of the Ice Age resulted in global climate changes which stopped the rains and forced these Neolithic(New Stone Age) peoples into new modes of existence. Either agriculture which was just beginning at the end of the Neolithic, or a nomadic animal husbandry mode of existence. The New Stone Age was a very dynamic era giving rise to agriculture, pottery, and permanent settlements, all of which were milestones in humankind's march toward'civilized' life. This group of 29 Sahara Neolithic relics is composed of diverse types of relics and 1 Paleolithic relic from Morocco. The Neolithic relics were discovered on ancient habitation sites deep in the western Sahara desert. Mostly in the vicinity of northern Mauritania/Mal but also includes two small'Eiffel Tower' points from Algeria. This group consist of several types of projectile points from varying periods of the Neolithic era. Including ovate, stemmed, triangular, a small'crescent' blade, and a couple of earlier uni-facial tool forms. In all there are 20 stone projectile points and tools including: two Mesolithic uni-facial blade, seen at the bottom middle and right. Also from the Neolithic are: A Neolthic celt used for cutting and scrapping. Seen at upper left. Rarer miniature form! A small complete quartz labret which is ... morethe cylindrical relic. Possibly used in body piercing. Lastly. There is an early Aterian point dating to approximately 30,000 BC. It is seen at the upper left and was the first known stemmed tool type. The tip end is worked around and blunted for scrapping. This is an early hafted scrapper tool, which may have started out as a projectile point and been converted to a different function. The shortest point is 3/4th inch(19 mm) The longest tool is 2 1/4th inches(57 mm) long. Ovate blade probably used as a knife. This is one of the more diverse offering of ancient Sahara relics you will find in one lot. Th ese are everyday work tools and adornments used. And lost or discarded by our Neolithic and earlier hunter-gatherer ancestors. They are all honest, authentic relics in good shape, some will exhibit minor ancient damage(as seen in he photograph) Such as dings, usually to tips, tangs, and/or barbs to stemmed points.
