Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 LARGE ANTIQUE CHINESE NEOLITHIC POTTERY JAR WITH HANDLES This is a large antique Chinese Neolithic ... moreterra cotta pot measuring over 16 inches tall and 15 inches wide with two handles. The body of the pot is in generally good condition thought there are some flakes of missing paint. Description The Chinese regard carved jade objects as intrinsically valuable. And they metaphorically equate jade with human virtue due to its solidity, durability and(moral) beauty. Many countries boast a jade ware culture. But none of them can China's long jadeware history. ... moreIn China, jadeware underwent a long process of development beginning from the New Stone Age 10,000 years ago.The patterns of China's jadeware have rich connotations, revealing strong, auspicious colors. Bats and gourds were used as subjects for more than 100 patterns because the Chinese words"bat" and"gourd" sound like"good fortune" in Chinese. When a bat was carved on an ancient coin with a hole, it meant that fortune was at hand; bats coupled with birthday peaches referred to fortune and longevity; bats mixed with sika, birthday peaches and magpies were also considered good omens. These beliefs reflected the ancient Chinese people's yearning for a happy life and revealed the essence of China's traditional culture. Jade in China is varied and can be divided into two categories: hard and soft jade. Good materials provide a strong basis for jadeware carving. But the value of a jade object depends on the skills and reputation of the craftsman, date of carving, peculiar modeling and the owner's status. Certainly, different people will have various views on the value of the same jade object. It is difficult to have a unanimous standard. D

10 x Neolithic Flint Tools Material: Flint Colour: Various Type: Various Age: 4000BC Area: Sahara 5p(18mm) to give indication of size and not included in the auction. I have personally handled over 10.000 of these'flints' during my collecting over the last 10 years. The majority of flints on the market today were found in North West Africa. This is not a reflection on the density of usage of these items but more a reflection of the areas current climate- being very arid it makes it easier to find these items. The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert. Over 9,000,000 km²(3,500,000 mi²) almost as large as the United States. The Sahara is located in northern Africa and is 2.5 million years old. Its name, Sahara, is an English pronunciation of the word for desert in Arabic. The boundaries of the Sahara are the Atlantic ... moreOcean on the west. The Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea on the north, the Red Sea and Egypt on the east, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River on the south. The Sahara is divided into western Sahara, the central Ahaggar Mountains, the Tibesti Mountains, the Aïr Mountains(a region of desert mountains and high plateaus) Tenere desert and the Libyan desert(the most arid region) The highest peak in the Sahara is Emi Koussi(3415 m) in the Tibesti Mountains in northern Chad. The Sahara divides the continent of Africa into North and Sub-Saharan Africa. The southern border of the Sahara is marked by a band of semiarid savanna called the Sahel; south of the Sahel lies the lusher Sudan and the Congo River Basin. During the Late Neolithic period(approx 4000BC– 2000BC) the Sahara had a much wetter climate(sometimes known as the Aqualithic) and was akin to modern day North America. Arrowheads are typically collected and traded by the local nomadic peoples of the Sahara. They find them as the sand dunes move and they travel around seasonally grazing their herds. Finding and collecting items such as these provides them with a reasonable, stable income. Payment via Payp

43 average, common-grade Sahara Neolithic points and tools
Lot Description: This is a diverse group of 43 average. Common-grade Sahara desert found tools. This lot is composed of a diverse group of projectile point and tools forms. The lot consist of all the main types including stemmed. Triangular, ovate, and unifacial post as well as other tools. They are mostly from the southwestern Sahara(northern Mauritania/Mali) Th ese tools were used to hunt and process water fowl and other game in the now dried up lakes of the Sahara 4.000 years ago. These tools are of mixed size. The shortest tool is 9/16th inch long(14 mm) The longest tool is 1 7/8th inches(48 mm) The condition is average. Some are completely intact, other have small ancient, as can be expected with working tools. These small tools were used and lost or discarded when they became too small to use. See picture for details. The color in hand. ... moreIs better than the picture indicates. The natural light somehow washes out the color or maybe it's my photography skills. These relics are representative of everyday tools. Many of these tools were used until they could no longer function well because they were to small to re-sharpen at which point they were discarded others were lost in the hunt. A nice diverse sampling of Sahara tools! Background information is provided with my 2-page essay on the subject. Which will be included. Neolithic populations living near now dried lakes and rivers in what is now the Sahara desert; used these tools in the hunt for and processing of waterfowl and small game. The end of the Ice Age resulted in global climate changes which stopped the rains and forced these Neolithic(New Stone Age) peoples into new modes of existence. Either agriculture which was just beginning at the end of the Neolithic, or a nomadic animal husbandry mode of existence. The New Stone Age was a very dynamic era giving rise to agriculture, pottery, and permanent settlements, all of which were milestones in humankinds march toward'civilized' life. The Sahara Neolithic lasted from 9,000 to 4,000 BP(years Befo
