I believe from the Yucatan region is this stone burnished. Hand carved bowl depicting the God of Corn/ Maize. Below is a blurb I found online, kudos to the author, I cannot recall where I found it. It tells of the Mayan God of Maize. This bowl has no flaws. No chips, no cracks. It has a wire thru two small openings for hanging. It is only about 15 yrs. old. Each line/groove is hand carved. Not using a laser. Each dimple in the center behind the figure is also hand ground. The bowl is shiny in the red areas, made shiny by hand burnishing with a smooth stone. Very labor intensive. I bought this from a man in Scottsdale. Az.His description of this mask, which is all I have to go on, is that this is some kind of a Mayan Dance Mask. He felt it was approximately 80 years old. It is very interesting.with the gecco type animal on top of mask to make it, kind of a double mask. Using animals on the Aztec or Mayan masks had different meanings to different tribes or dance rituals. This Mask does have feathers. This is a Tzeltal Indian Bowl that was given to me by a missionary in the 1970's. The Tzeltal Indians are Mayan Indians and live in Chiapas. Mexico. Chiapas is a southern state in Mexico. The Tzeltal's major crafts are pottery and weaving textiles. The pottery is wood fired. I have two bowls and three pieces of textiles. This bowl is 6 inches tall by 6 1/2 inches wide. This is a large and heavy old Mexican Biker Ring most likely 1940's or 50's vintage with an Aztec or Mayan Warrior on the face adorned with a headdress with colorful enamel inlay details. Just look at the incredible detail in the face. Each side of the ring has a wonderful detailed Fleur De Lis coat of arms shield. The face of the ring measures approximately 1 1/16" in. tall by 13/16" in. wide. The ring is marked made in Mexico and appears to be made of mixed metals of possibly Alpaca silver. Brass and copper. It is in very nice vintage conditio n. The enamel detailing is in very goo d condition. Much better than most. With almost all of it in tact. A great looking o ld biker ring! Ring is approximately a size 10.75 on the ring sizing mandrel. This is a wonderful example of a vintage Mexican biker ring or Mexican tourist ... morering. Mexican pottery figure of Aztec-Mayan priest-warrior, vintage
I believe this to be a vintage. Ceramic, replica piece made for the tourist trade of the 1970's-80's maybe earlier of a pre-Columbian design. I can't find any markings on it anywhere of maker or manufacturer. I bought this in Honolulu in 1986 from a antiques-curiosities dealer who was closing business. I have had it that long. It doesn't appear to have any age or patina to it to be an authentic artifact. It is skillfully and beautifully executed. Fine workmanship and detail. In excellent condition. No breaks or chips. Done in a terra cotta clay and painted with a light blue highlights. I think it used to have a spear or something in his hands and they appear to be grasping something. Gorgeous shade of green Mexican jade stone pendant. Bat's face is quite charming.Almost smiling. Hole is drilled on top of the bat's head. Measures 2.5" tall 2" wide. Slanty almond-shaped eyes, full lips, and elongated ear lobes on human face. I lived in Mexico for many years in the 1970s and collected Mexican folk art and pre-Columbian artifacts of all sorts. I do not recall where this piece is from. Looks too smooth to be hand carved, so it probably is not more than 50 years old.
