The exterior and interior have two black lines around the center with a weave pattern in the interior between the uppermost line and the rim. All three legs are also decorated. The bowl has a rounded bottom and curved sides with a slightly flared rim, and the ovoid legs are hollow and contain rattles. In excellent condition, although visible flaking has occurred, with mineral deposits normal for its age and only a very few minor nicks. Original condition, not restored. Estimated age of 300 BCE- 300 CE. Approx. 6” diameter x 3 1/8” high with the bowl about 2 ½” deep.Provenance- This item was recently purchased from the estate of the late Willis Pratt, a career academic at the University of Texas in Austin. Appears to be a somewhat older piece-perhaps 20-years-old? I can't say for sure. I have a companion piece. A bowl, in another listing that does have a sticker on it showing the Costa Rican currency symbol.so that is how I identified the origin. Guatemala Maya Child's Skirt Corte Morga Nahuala Cakchiquel Mayan Textile
Most of the skirts or cortes used by the Maya women of Guatemala are made on treadle looms in the large textile-producing villages of the western highlands of southern Guatemala. Certain designs are village-specific. But it is now more common for the woman to choose a skirt fabric which suits her personal aesthetic. Some skirts are also made in the particular village for use in that village. As used, the two ends of long panels 35-50 inches wide are seamed together to form a tube. The woman steps inside this tube and folds the material in a complicated manner to form the skirt. Those skirts with a foundation of indigo-dyed cotton are very traditional in many villages, and are called morgas. This skirt is a post-1990 child's morga from Nahuala. The panel width of 25 inches was formed by joining two narrow panels with a decorative randa ... morestitch; this wide panel was then formed into a tube. With the two ends being joined with the same randa. The sides of the cloth are very nicely selvage-finished. Overall size as seen is 25 inches wide and 28.5 inches long, of double thickness. The weave is weft-faced plain weave of solid dark blue cotton cloth. This particular skirt also has a few stripes of ikat or jaspe, as well as a few glittery stripes of metallic thread. This garment is light and supple, and the randa stitch is particularly fine. In the photos, the second is a closeup of the first, showing the cruciform intersection of the randas. In both cases, the weft is in the vertical direction. Condition: Very Good. Lightly used, some very slight soil is possible, some loose threads. Please NOTE: We do have a web site. Vintage '20s (1927) Tapestry-4x4 Ft.-Piano Shawl? Throw?-Mayan Scene?-MINT!!
Let me say up front that I do not deal in vintage linens. Rather. Vintage clothing is my area of expertise. I will be as descriptive and forthright as I can about this tapestry. I think some may call it a piano shawl. Anyway. I can tell you that it has been in my possession since 1991 when it was given to me by a friend, who said it was his grandmothers. At one time a handwritten note had been attached to the tapestry that said it was purchased in 1927 on Michigan Avenue in New York. In packing and in three moves since 1991. The note has disappeared. Anyway. It certainly is unique. a vivid print in luxurious shades of gold, tan, reds, and greens. One of my friends says the“story” in the fabric reminds her of a Mayan narrative with the face-off between a cat-like creature and a warrior of some sort. Then you’ll find more docile deer-like creatures ... morewith two horns amid the lush flora and fauna recreations. Overall. The piece measures just a tad over 4 x 4 feet with the fringe adding another 3 inches. It is in MINT condition. My friend gave it to me in a vintage box. Which has since disintegrated. This post-1990 daily use child's huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. It is of mixed cotton and synthetic threads. And of very traditional geometric designs. In this case the designs were added using needle embroidery. The garment consists of three panels, joined to produce the garment. All of the lower panel edges have a short cut warp fringe. Original adornment around the head-hole is retained. The stitching under the arm-holes, which makes this a usable garment, has been retained. The background color is a variegated blue. This color may appear different on different computer monitors. Measurements: 18 inches wide. And about 16 inches shoulder to hem. Condition: Excellent. Mayan Warrior cufflinks small sterling silver figures. These are an unmatched pair. One in jaguar warrior. The other has an elaborate head dress. Both have shields and clubs or maces. These are not marked the figures are tested with acid and they are sterling. The cuff link findings are silver plated. There are several flaws. Jaguar man does not have a tail. The tail looks as if it was broken off so it did not catch on anything. The other warrior has only one horn on his head dress. I do not know if this is the was it is supposed to be. All edges are smooth and the piece is inlaid with lapis. Turquoise, bronze and brass metal. Marked on back with the Eagle 3 and the FLC maker's marks. Pin and bale are working as they should. We haven't polished the piece so it has its old patina. While some of the inlaid lapis and turqoise may seem imperfect the piece is completely smooth to the touch and I don't see any serious issues. Weighs 7.5 grams. Note the pendant and pin are made so the piece is worn east to west with the image of the mayan facing left with the headdress and the volcano top facing east. This 4 1/4 x 3 1/2 x 1 1/2" box is made of 3 materials: The box itself is brass. The lid is tortoise shell, inlaid with brass figures(the sacrifice scene) and the interior of the box is wood lined, either pernambuco or teak. The button-type legs have a thin coating of copper. The wood is a purplish red and heavily and evenly striated. It seems more porous than pernambuco. Yet it is a little too red to be teak. We are just not sure. It is nice looking. The tortoise shell has a few cracked lines, but all still very tight. In all. This box will polish up beautifully for display. Antique Heavy Silver Plate Hand Carved Mayan Tribal Mask Link Bracelet
This amazing piece of antique jewelry conveys a dramatic sense of history and belief with its hand carved Mayan Tribal god faces. The carved images alternate between two different gods or heroes. Perhaps it is two manifestations of a single one. Whatever its roots are. We are quite certain that it is an authentic antique piece with an abundance of amazing history deeply ingrained in every link. The bracelet is heavily silver plated and its patina has darkened significantly with its age. Its weight is also substantial. Which has secured the detailing of the wonderful carvings. We leave cleaning, if desired, to the bracelet's new owner. The bracelet is 1 1/8 inches high and 7.5 inches in length. Each of the carved panels is 1/2 of an inch wide. There are 9 carved figural panels and one ornately carved end piece into which the hand made ... morehook fits to secure the bracelet quite efficiently. The bracelet is in phenomenal condition.

Guatemala Mayan Huipil Tactic / Tamahu Verapaz Pocomchi Maya NEW Unfinished
This post-2000 huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is plain Black cotton in all three panelsl. The designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. And they are of entirely cotton threads. The huipil consists of three panels, seemed together at the joints. An extra piece of commercial cotton cloth is usually added along the bottom edge to lengthen the garment where it goes inside the skirt. This cloth is not present in this example. The clear black space in the center is for the head-hole. This has not yet been done, so the size can be determined by the ultimate user. Measurements: 40 inches wide across the shoulders and sleeves. And 17 inches long. Thus if totally opened dimensions are 40 inches wide and 34 inches long. Condition: Excellent. Never used, a few loose ... morethreads possible from the weaving process. The side seams are also not present, so that the huipil can be laid flat for display. The final 2 photos show a few white threads, which for some reason were added by the maker to the blue brocading, during the weaving process. Please NOTE: We do have a web site.
