A tiny terracotta upright figure from the Jalisco culture of western Mexico. Ca. 200 BC- 200 AD. The figure, has the hands folded across the chest, and is in a somewhat bent over position, some unknown object attached to the thigh of one leg. 2-1/8" 5.4cm) tall, 1" 2.54cm) across the shoulders and approximately 5/8" 1.6cm) in depth, mounted and labeled on a polished wood plinth, the overall height is 4-1/4" 10.8cm) I will furnish a color photocopy. This beautiful Folk Art figurine is in excellent condition and is signed by artist SERMEL. The colorful doll is handpainted in great detail and the high glaze finish gives a lacquer like patina. The vase is hand painted and signed Mexico JJP on the bottom.Color is ruddy brown glaze with painted red and black Sun God on front and back. Spirals with what look like feathers on each side. And red and black accents on rim and bottom. The bottom of the vase is signed Mexico JJP" The vase measures 9-1/2 inches in height. 8-1/2 inches at its widest point, 4-1/4 inches base diameter, 5 inches diameter for the opening lip of vase. There is one chip the size of a pencil eraser(not deep just surface) see pics) and the glaze and paint on the bottom third has some wear/fading.some general wear and discoloration. Very cool piece. Here is a very early burnished Tonala pottery charger. Platter or wall handing from Jalisco, Mexico, hand painted in a whimsical fold art style. I believe that it probably dates to the 30's- 40's. It is hand shaped and thick; and has the slight irregularities found in this old pottery. The condition is good, with no chips or cracks. There is slight rubbing and paint loss across the top rim, and there is a hole drilled through it directly above the owl's head. likely a misguided attempt to hang it without using the wire loop on the back. The clay loop for the hanging wire does look rather fragile. There is no signature, but the artist has used the blank back to practice a few black brush strokes. AUTHENTIC Lot PRE COLUMBIAN JALISCO Pottery Vase Bowl Platter Mexico NO RESERVE
I purchased a large lot of pottery in a high-end auction. And these three pieces of Pre-Columbian pottery were included in it. A very old auction label on the bottom of one of the pieces identifies these as Jalisco. The vase in this lot has red painted details and is 4.5 inches tall. With an opening at the top of 3.5 inches in diameter. It is a beautiful piece but does have a chip on the top rim, which is shown in photos. There are also two very old labels on the bottom, which can be removed by the buyer if desired. The small bowl here is 4.25 inches in diameter and 2 inches tall. It has beautiful firing marks. Although it too has chips, shown in photos. The large platter/bowl is 9.5 inches in diameter and 2 inches tall. Again. Nice firing marks and overall a great looking piece. The head, of orange-ware terracotta is somewhat fragmentary, having lost the top of the head and the right earring. Huichol Beaded Bell Ornament Peyote Art Jalisco, Mexico
This colorful. And very intricately beaded, Huichol bell ornament, was probably made during the artist's peyote induced religious experience. The Huichol Indians, of Jalisco, Mexico, consider their art sacred, and their designs relate to their religious symbols. To create this ornament. Beeswax was applied to the bell shape, and then the tiny, glass seed beads were arranged, and embedded, to create this exquisite little treasure. The beaded portion of the bell measures approximately 2 inches tall. And 2 inches in diameter. The overall length is 6 and ½ inches. There is a small gold tone bell that dangles inside, along with colorful ribbons. There is also a little female figure, that is embroidered on a cloth tag, and beaded fringe around the circumference of the bottom of the bell. Pre Columbian Jalisco, brown ware pottery warrior artifact, relic, Have COA
This is a wonderful brown ware piece from the Jalisco Culture in Western Mexico. A seated dead warrior figure in death. The helmet says he is a warrior and the death bubble in his mouth indicates he is dead in some great beyond. A difficult piece to find it is a classic with smooth lines looking almost as though it were sculpted than moulded from brown ware pottery. Good condition. No cracks. Collector's dream CA 200 BC to 200AD Ht. 12 inches. Wides 10 inches, depth 7-8 inches. A really heavy boy! Provenance purchased from Artemis Gallery.
